Rofa projects

Rofa projects RoFa Projects is a platform to advance the social and cultural awareness of Latin American contemporary art.

RoFa Projects is a platform for discourse on contemporary Latin American Art. RoFa Projects works with emerging Latin-American artist who have a shared interest in materials and objects with their surroundings, mixing shapes, textures and colors with conceptual interventions. Also we reexamine the legacy of geometric abstraction in Latin America through the prism of recent art produced by Latin Am

erican artists of various generations. Exploring the constant artistic and curatorial development, our model presents itself as a dynamic and multidisciplinary space for diverse observation, supporting experimentation and dialogue between artists and professionals of the art world and the general public.

Santiago Velez

Velez’s research as a visual artist is based on basic premises of ecological, social and political concerns related to the environment and looks at water as a determinant element.  It focuses on the relationships that these issues establish with man and his communities. Through installations and multidisciplinary languages he establishes links, intersections and divergences between global realities that erupt in specific areas of society.velez.s

Puertas al mar.
Through research into migration problems existing in the Mediterranean, Velez began to find many references speaking metaphorically about the real, utopian and sarcastic possibilities related to the problem and its imminent need to do something about it.
Phrases like “The sea that became the border", “the random coast", “stem the sea", “The Crystal Frontier" among many others, are constantly repeated in the headlines that don’t seem to have fixed time frames but serve to show that the problem is cyclically getting worse. Such metaphors have such a strong symbolic meaning that only thinking about them makes their materialization possible.velez.s

We are very happy to announce the Artwork of Muriel Hasbun : *X post facto (6.7)*, is now also part of the Collection of the ICP, International Center of Photography in New York.
Muriel Hasbun developed the X post facto collection from her father’s archive of dental records.  During the war, Hasbun’s father was called to identify bodies through dental records.  In one case he was asked to identify the body of a woman named Janet abducted in 1984.  “The memory of Janet and her portrait haunted me as I looked at my father’s archive. Like a medical examiner or a forensic anthropologist, I examined x-ray after x-ray. At first, they all seemed as anonymous as a document signed with an X"

Congratulations Muriel !

"Pulse: New Cultural Registers reframes the cultural legacy of El Salvador during the 1980s and 1990s using personal and historical archives. It imprints the rescued archive of the renowned Galería el laberinto --an epicenter of cultural activity in El Salvador during its civil war, founded by my late mother Janine Janowski-- along with my own photographic archive of the time onto the national seismographic record of El Salvador. The constructed photographs transform the land into a fully lived and witnessed “thirdspace” of memory and art, mapping our history into a new meeting ground for an inclusive, equitable and restorative future." Muriel Hasbun

Claudia Casarino. Centro Cultural Recoleta.

Don’t miss the artist Ronal Moran at Venice Biennale. Ronald Morán is presenting the installation “Repeating rusty mantras” in the Bolivian Pavilion. The piece is an installation composed of landscapes inspired by sumi-e that relate this technique and its landscaping tradition with the Salvadoran urban landscape where “razor” wire fences are very common.

𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 (𝘏𝘶𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘦 𝘌𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢) is an exhibition that revolves around migration, history, reminiscence, family, and existence. Connecting the physical landscape with the memory of what is left behind, these five artists use altered photographs, video and installation to explore their profound relationship with their homeland and the socio-political issues of Latin America and the United States.

The artist Avelino Sala (Gijon 1972) presents in the context of the Malta Biennial and with the support of Aecid, "No one's an island", a solo show for the Spanish pavilion of this event. Curated by Angel Moya, the Spanish pavilion focuses on the idea of the island, the European identity, the capacity of citizens to react and the Mediterranean human migratory crisis.
The first edition of maltabiennnale.art 2024 aims to examine the Mediterranean from an insular perspective; being surrounded by sea drastically alters one's point of view and response. Through insular thinking, it becomes clear that the Mediterranean basin has two shores: it is both Southern Europe and North Africa, a meeting of East and West, a confluence of East and West. Far from being pure, the island is always a principle of composition and invention.
