A MI VIDA seeks to contribute to a cultural positioning of the Latin American immigrant presence, pointing to that past-present that forms part of who we are. As a first-generation immigrant and mother, the artist draws on her own experience to denounce the cruelty of family separation and to call for empathy and protection. The pre-Columbian references highlight the deep cultural ties between Westernized Latin Americans and the land they left behind—ties often overlooked by a system that sees immigrants of color as ahistorical and without cultural contribution. The works seek to reclaim this heritage, asserting the enduring presence and value of Latin American immigrants within the cultural fabric of the United States.
A MI VIDA busca contribuir a dotar de un posicionamiento cultural a la presencia inmigrante latinoamericana, señalando ese pasado-presente que forma parte de nuestra mezcla. Como inmigrante de primera generación y madre, la artista recurre a su propia experiencia para denunciar la crueldad de la separación familiar y para convocar a la empatía y la protección. Las referencias precolombinas resaltan los profundos lazos culturales entre los latinoamericanos occidentalizados y la tierra que dejaron atrás—vínculos que con frecuencia son ignorados por un sistema que percibe a los inmigrantes racializados como ahistóricos y sin aporte cultural. Las obras buscan reivindicar esa herencia, afirmando la presencia y el valor duradero de los inmigrantes latinoamericanos dentro del tejido cultural de los Estados Unidos.
