We are thrilled to welcome internationally recognized glass artist Toland Sand to Gallery of Modern Masters.
"Character Light Vessel" is from the Light Vessel Series, a series that marks the five years Toland Sand spent as a young man in Greece. The sky, the water, and the archaeological references are all symbols of what he found meaningful during his time there. It measures 20″ x 6″ x 6″.
A pioneering figure in the modern studio glass movement, Toland Sand has been working with glass since the 1970s. His distinctive process combines precision cutting, grinding, polishing, laminating, and optical glass techniques to construct sculptural forms that play with light, geometry, color, and the illusion of interior space. His work has earned him an important place in contemporary glass art and is held in significant collections around the world.
There is something magical about experiencing his work in person; the sculpture seems to change as you move around it, revealing new colors, reflections, and dimensions.
