🍎 Did you know Sedona was named after a real person? 🏜️
In the early 1900s, T.C. Schnebly helped establish the area’s first post office. When it came time to choose a name, he suggested Oak Creek Crossing and Schnebly Station, but both were considered too long for a postmark.
T.C.’s brother, Ellsworth, had another idea: “Why don’t you name it after your wife?”
And just like that, the community became Sedona, named after T.C.’s wife, Sedona Miller Schnebly.
Even her name has a unique story. Sedona was born in Missouri in 1877, and her mother, Amanda Miller, simply made up the name because she thought it sounded pretty.
So despite what you may have heard, “Sedona” isn’t a Spanish or Native American name. Her mother created it, and it eventually became the name of one of Arizona’s most recognizable places!
