Bobbie Burgers’ upcoming exhibition, Depth of Field, will be on view in both our Montecito and St. Helena galleries September 9-30. There will be two opportunities to meet the artist and celebrate her newest body of work with opening receptions in each location.

Opening Reception & Artist Talk | Montecito
Thursday, September 10 | 5 - 7pm

Opening Reception & Artist Talk | St. Helena
Saturday, September 12 | 4 - 6pm

For more than two decades, Vancouver-based artist Bobbie Burgers has explored the flower as both subject and metaphor, creating meditative, layered paintings that blur the boundary between representation and abstraction.

“As the paintings have become more abstract, they have also become more open, inviting viewers to bring their own memories, emotions, and interpretations. I hope these works suggest that beauty is not something fixed or delicate, but something living, layered, imperfect, and constantly becoming.” - Bobbie Burgers

We are delighted to announce the exclusive US representation of German artist Martin Wehmer, whose distinctive practice has been shaped by decades of artistic exploration across Europe and China. His premiere exhibition is now on view in St. Helena through September 8th, with a select group of paintings in Montecito.

Martin Wehmer’s paintings explore how perception, cultural memory, and personal experience shape our understanding of reality. Rooted in European and German artistic traditions, his practice moves fluidly between abstraction and figuration, drawing upon forms and imagery with psychological, symbolic, and cultural associations. While his subjects provide a point of entry establishing mood and a visual anchor for the viewer, Wehmer’s paintings ultimately turn inward, becoming explorations of painting itself. In this post-conceptual approach, color, gesture, surface, and the physical act of painting take on equal importance to the image, inviting the viewer to experience the tension between representation and abstraction.

Wehmer was born in Hattingen, Germany in 1966. Amongst his earliest achievements, he was awarded the Volksbanken Art Prize in 1996. International residencies in Edinburgh and Beijing expanded his perspective and ultimately led him to settle in Beijing in 2008, where he lived for many years and became actively engaged with China’s contemporary art community. In 2009, he was among the organizers of the 798 Beijing Biennale. He returned to Germany in 2026, and is now based in Berlin. His experience living between cultures has become central to his practice, informing his exploration of how meaning shifts across geographic, historical, and cultural boundaries.

Alongside his studio practice, Wehmer has taught at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, and the Chinese-German Academy of Art, contributing to artistic exchange between China and Germany. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in notable public and corporate collections, including UBS in Hong Kong, Cologne, and Zürich, as well as Kunstkredit Basel and the Kultusministerium Kanton Basel.

We are pleased to present Chromatic Narratives, a group exhibition celebrating four exceptional Bay Area artists. Together, their distinctive artistic voices explore color, composition, and contemporary painting through a thoughtfully curated selection of works, including several newly released paintings.

Matt Rogers creates vibrant paintings that synthesize Pop art with the traditions of California landscape painting, transforming familiar landscapes, gardens, and florals through bold color, rhythmic compositions, and expressive gesture

Melissa Chandon transforms everyday scenes into luminous, California-inspired paintings where vibrant color and shifting light blur the line between memory and imagination.

Siddharth Parasnis balances a sense of physical place with pure color and form, creating richly layered paintings where luminous color and geometric abstraction evoke both structure and atmosphere.

Deladier Almeida reimagines the Northern California landscape through paintings that seamlessly shift between representation and abstraction, revealing unexpected rhythms, color, and movement within familiar scenes.

Recent paintings by Alireza Varzandeh are now on view in our Montecito gallery through August 11.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception and helped make the evening such a memorable celebration. We are especially grateful to the Music Academy of the West Music Academy of the West Bassoon Fellows for their beautiful performance and to Folded Hills Winery Folded Hills Winery for providing a wonderful selection of summer wines. It was a pleasure to celebrate this special collaboration with our Montecito community.

Varzandeh portrays subjects in both physical and emotional motion. With blurred faces, their identities remain mysterious, yet each figure’s posture and gesture suggests a unique personality and history. Scenes of youth, summer, and leisure come alive through his expressive brushwork and luminous palette, capturing the atmosphere of beaches, parks, and cafés with a playful yet observant eye.

We invite you to stop by the gallery and experience the exhibition in person.

Today, we join the international art community in mourning the passing of Ralph Fleck.

For many years, it was an honor for Caldwell Snyder Gallery to represent Ralph and share his extraordinary work with collectors and visitors. His paintings possessed a remarkable ability to transform familiar landscapes, cities, and architecture into richly layered compositions that rewarded closer looking. Through vibrant color, expressive texture, and an unmistakable visual language, Ralph challenged the boundaries between abstraction and representation, leaving a lasting impact on contemporary painting.

Ralph devoted more than four decades to an exceptional artistic career. His work was exhibited internationally and is held in major museum and private collections around the world—a testament to his enduring vision and influence.
Beyond his remarkable accomplishments, Ralph will be remembered for the generosity of his artistic spirit and the lasting legacy he leaves through his work. We are deeply grateful to have been part of his journey and to have shared his paintings with our community.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and his many collectors.

Rest in peace, Ralph.
