Photographer Edward Burtynsky's work speaks to the contradictions in resource consumption and our concern for nature. His statement about his body of work titled "Water":

“While trying to accommodate the growing needs of an expanding, and very thirsty civilization, we are reshaping the Earth in colossal ways. In this new and powerful role over the planet, we are also capable of engineering our own demise. We have to learn to think more long-term about the consequences of what we are doing, while we are doing it. My hope is that these pictures will stimulate a process of thinking about something essential to our survival; something we often take for granted—until it’s gone.”

Check out this installation by Dan Corson, designed to be displayed in the 1-87 underpass in San Jose, California. "Sensing Water" uses real time weather data from NOAA to project lighting patterns onto the walls of this urban passageway. As the weather changes, so do the patterns within the underpass. The installation highlights a section of the Guadalupe River that has been urbanized and intends to bring awareness to water issues of the Silicon Valley. http://dancorson.com/sensing-water
