Dolly on the Lawn: A Listening Party

Join us on Saturday, August 29, as we spend the day celebrating the music, spirit, and legacy of Dolly Parton.

During our regular museum hours, from 10:00 AM until we begin closing around 4:30 PM, we’ll be playing the music of Dolly Parton throughout the day as a small tribute to an extraordinary woman whose influence reaches far beyond music.

Dolly grew up in a small cabin in rural Tennessee as one of 12 children. Though her family had very little materially, her childhood was rich with music, faith, and family, experiences that would help shape the woman and artist she would become.

From her humble beginnings, Dolly went on to build an extraordinary career while using her success to lift others up. Through the Imagination Library alone, she has helped put more than 330 million books into the hands of children around the world, while her philanthropy, advocacy, and support for education and communities have touched countless lives.

This is not a formal Dolly Parton event, and the museum will not be free that day. We simply wanted to take a moment to honor Dolly and the incredible impact she has made through her music, generosity, and lifelong commitment to helping others.

As a women’s history museum, we believe in celebrating women who have used their voices, talents, and influence to make a difference. Dolly’s story is a wonderful reminder that where you begin does not have to determine how far your impact can reach, and we’re honored to celebrate her alongside the many incredible women whose stories we preserve and share every day.

Today is Thursday, which means it's time for another throwback picture of the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum. These pictures date back to 2007, capturing the process of restoring the original outer coquina walls of our museum. Coquina is a natural and resilient building material, but it requires maintenance and preservation over time to prevent erosion and environmental damage. Our funds are dedicated to preserving this important structure for future generations, ensuring that it remains a part of St. Augustine's history for years to come.

Happy !

The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum has always been shaped by women. From our beginnings with Juana Pellicer, wife of our first owner Andrés Ximenez, to Margaret Cook, Eliza Whitehurst, Sarah Petty Anderson, and finally Miss Louisa Fatio, women have left their mark on this home in powerful ways.

After Miss Fatio’s passing, the house remained in her family until 1939, when the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida purchased the property. Pictured here is the Purchasing Committee of 1939, the women who signed for the purchase and began the decades-long work of cleaning, restoring, and furnishing the house. Thanks to their vision, dedication and extremely hard work, the house officially opened as a museum in 1946.
