st Scholars. The organization was founded by Blanche Burton-Lyles and has existed for over 29 years. The society consists of The Marian Anderson Residence Museum at 762 S. Martin St., where Anderson lived and maintained all of her life, and the National Scholar Artist Program that Marian Anderson created herself in 1950 in Philadelphia. The Marian Anderson Scholar Artist Program cultivates these exceptional professional Artists from ages 18 and UP and provides the Artist support for the development of their careers at the National Marian Anderson Museum & Historical Society. The Scholar Artist is given support with private coaching's, lessons, performance wardrobe, travel to auditions, travel to contracted performances, promotion of our Marian Anderson Scholar Artists. And most importantly our Marian Anderson Scholar Artists perform every year with our Marian Anderson Historical Society Concerting Season which are at least five to six shows a year. The National Marian Anderson Historical Society also has the Arts Empowerment Project which provide education, development, mentorship and performance for all Children in the Arts in the Tri-State Area from ages 4 -18.

In this historic semiquincentennial year The Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society is thrilled to have been asked to participate and facilitate with Voices of History: Stories from Black Pennsylvanians, a statewide effort by PA Humanities to collect, preserve, and share the stories of Black residents.

We are hosting two days of community story circles sessions inviting people to share a story about a particular place, person, object, or personal memory that defines their family.

LET FREEDOM RING

The Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society is honored to have been asked to partner with the Association For Public Art for their initiative for the Semiquincentennial with this magnificent Art Installation Let Freedom Ring which honors America's 250th but also acknowledges Marian Anderson's historic 1939 Lincoln Memorial Concert. There will be a series of events that will take place this summer into the fall that the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society will be a part of and the Opening will be this Thursday June 4th 2026. We are delighted that our CEO Soprano Jillian Patricia Pirtle will lift her Voice and sing for the opening event and we look forward to the opening, the other events and greeting everyone. Did you know that June is the official month on the United States calendar to recognize the extraordinary contribution that Black Music has had on this country and the world. As we recognize this month we remember and honor our great Marian Anderson and the historic contribution that she made to Black Music, the music industry and the world. We ask that as you reflect that you consider supporting the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society as we continue the historic preservation and programming in her national historical landmark and cultural institution.

It was a great Joy to welcome the students of the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts to the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society to experience our brand new Exhibit 'Marian The American Story'. These exceptional artists were filled with excitement and enthusiasm as they journeyed through all three floors of our new exhibit exploring the artifacts and exhibits and the experience of our great Marian Andersons powerful life story. Special Thanks to Dr. Jay Fluellen for bringing the students and exposing them to the historic and powerful life of our Great Marian Anderson .
