st Scholars. The organization was founded by Blanche Burton-Lyles and has existed for over 29 years. The society consists of The Marian Anderson Residence Museum at 762 S. Martin St., where Anderson lived and maintained all of her life, and the National Scholar Artist Program that Marian Anderson created herself in 1950 in Philadelphia. The Marian Anderson Scholar Artist Program cultivates these exceptional professional Artists from ages 18 and UP and provides the Artist support for the development of their careers at the National Marian Anderson Museum & Historical Society. The Scholar Artist is given support with private coaching's, lessons, performance wardrobe, travel to auditions, travel to contracted performances, promotion of our Marian Anderson Scholar Artists. And most importantly our Marian Anderson Scholar Artists perform every year with our Marian Anderson Historical Society Concerting Season which are at least five to six shows a year. The National Marian Anderson Historical Society also has the Arts Empowerment Project which provide education, development, mentorship and performance for all Children in the Arts in the Tri-State Area from ages 4 -18.

On Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 5:00 PM, we will gather at historic Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia for an inspiring celebration of faith, history, music, and the enduring contributions that have shaped our nation.

The evening will feature the Faith & Freedom 250 Mass Choir, the Marian Anderson Historical Society Orchestral Ensemble, national faith leaders, historic dramatic readings and reenactments, film reflections, and memorable tributes to faith in America.

Presented in collaboration with the 400 Years of African American History Commission, the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society, and the Mother Bethel AME Church, this special Constitution Sunday celebration honors our history while inspiring a shared vision for America’s future.

HONORING THE MARCH ON WASHINGTON

The Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society is deeply honored to have been asked to partner with the Association For Public Art for their initiative for the Semiquincentennial with this magnificent Art Installation Let Freedom Ring which honors America's 250th but also acknowledges Marian Anderson's historic 1939 Lincoln Memorial Concert. Today's event paid tribute to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther Kings historic March on Washington and our great Marian Andersons inspiration and participation on that day 63 years ago. Our Marian Anderson Scholar Artists and Choral Ensemble under the Direction of Maestro Pyerce Oates gave an outstanding performance in honor of the occasion. A most humble Thank You is extended to the Association For Public Art and their magnificent leadership for the inclusion of the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society and their kindness.

REMEMBERING THE MARCH ON WASHINGTON

On this the 63rd anniversary of the historic March On Washington led by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, we honor our great Marian Anderson who was personally asked by Dr. King to return to the place in which she made history with America's first massive open outdoor concert event on April 9th 1939. Dr. King called Marian Anderson the Mother of the Civil Rights Movement and she was honored to return to the Lincoln Memorial to sing for the masses 'He's got The Whole World in His Hands' and March with Dr King on this day August 28th 1963. It is our hope that as you reflect on the significance on this day historically that you would remember our great Marian Anderson and the importance of the historic Preservation of this national historical landmark the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society.
