"Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth" by the newly freed people in Texas." Join us at the Voice of Pensacola on Monday, June 1 for Forgotten Front: Florida During the Revolutionary War with Margo Stringfield. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. This is a free program, but registration is required.

On July 4, 2026, the United States of America will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Join us for a fascinating look at British foodways during the Revolutionary War period and take home contemporary recipes to try yourself!

The Tampa Bay Times Newspaper in Education is hosting “Forgotten Front: Florida During the Revolutionary War,” a series of talks throughout Florida exploring Florida’s little-known history during the Revolutionary War.

Wow, thanks Pensacola News Journal, with more great shots of our representing Historic Pensacola Village in the Fiesta Pensacola Parade.

We had the beginning of Pensacola's story with our education director as Tristan de Luna. Pensacola's colonial history with our living history volunteers and our Pensacola State College student staff representing the Lavalle Kitchen House's living history programs.

Our group tour educator represented Pensacola's British military history and a few of our University of West Florida staff represented soldiers who protected Pensacola throughout our city's history.

A few student staff opted to represent the 1920's Lear/Rocheblave House: one ready to go for a bicycle ride promoting the Suffragette cause and one ready to dance at the Lear/Rocheblave speakeasy.

Our administrative assistant represented a women in half mourning to promote our Dorr House living history program, Death and Mourning in the Victorian Age. While several more were Victorian ladies out for a stroll.

And our visitor experience manager represented the Barrios Cottage's 1940 USO as a Red Cross volunteer. Did you know next year's Bootleg Ball with be the Zaragoza Swing, a 1940's USO Canteen?

We love bringing Pensacola's history to life! This parade allowed us to share our mission and engage with so many people who may have not stepped into our museums. Thank you for helping us .
