Genesee Valley Council on the Arts, home of the New Deal Gallery and supporter of the arts through out the Livingston County area.
Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (GVCA) offers the community the space in which to share, learn, and see art. The mission of the arts council is to enrich the quality of life in Livingston and Monroe Counties by encouraging and promoting the arts and cultural activities.
Situated on the Livingston County Campus in Mount Morris, a former tuberculosis hospital complex, our building's original use was as a four-apartment dwelling for the hospital's physicians and their families.
GVCA now provides a permanent home for the county's large collection of WPA paintings created through a depression-era program and allocated to the hospital in the 1930s. These hang in the New Deal Gallery on a rotating basis. This gallery is one of the attractions on the Greatest Generation Trail.
A second gallery, Apartment One, features work by juried, regional artists.
Good Deals Gift Shop complements the collection in the New Deal Gallery. Depression-era reproductions and resources are available, as well as a variety of items created by local artists and food artisans.
