Happy Wednesday!
I have good news and bad news today, let's start with the good....

We are open! Our faculty and staff exhibition is filled with installation art, mixed media creations, massive abstractions, and cultural reclamation projects. You certainly don't want to miss out.

Now for the bad. We will be closing on Friday, November 20th, until the spring semester begins. We want to say a quick thank you to all who have supported the development of the Lederer Gallery. Without you, our gallery space would fail to have a voice. Local artists would not have opportunities to exhibit their work. Students would not have foundational experiences which may propel future careers.

This got too sappy... but for now, it's a see you later, rather than a goodbye. Stay safe and have a wonderful holiday!

We have a NEW EXHIBITION! Our Faculty and Staff 2020 Exhibit is open. Gems from Dr. Hawkins, Garth Freeman, Amanda Chestnut, and more hang on the walls, while a massive installation congregates in the center of the gallery. We are open from 1-4 today and tomorrow, and 1-5 Friday and Saturday.

Our cultural harmony week exhibition is now on display! Come in and imbibe in the interconnected cultures which make our Geneseo campus a community. We are open today and tomorrow from 1-4 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 1-5 p.m.

We are in our final week of showing Cicely Cottingham and Victor Davson's watercolor series titled, "Book of Hours/Ours" ... you don't want to miss it! We are open today and tomorrow from 1-4 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 1-5 pm.

Victor Davson will have an online exhibition with Lederer, titled "Misogyny Papers" opening very soon. We will share more information as publishing is finalized. In the meantime, if you'd like to explore past exhibitions, go to our Flickr!

TITLE: Stories from the Attic: a Handful of Geneseo Histories
DATE: January 29 – March 11, 2020
LOCATION: Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery, SUNY Geneseo
OPENING RECEPTION: Wednesday, January 29 at 5 p.m.

Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery is pleased to announce its exhibit Stories from the Attic: A Handful of Geneseo Histories, developed by museum studies and curated by Rachel Kosinski. This exhibit explores aspects of Geneseo and Livingston County that might not be evident to students of the university. Spanning as far back as the Treaty of Big Tree, students will be able to see and touch an actual part of the ancient oak--while also being able to learn about slightly more recent things, such as the largest manufacturer of croquet sets in the United States and the Geneseo Normal School. Stories from the Attic will also explore Geneseo salt mines--one of the most important in the US--and the little-known existence of German Prisoner of War camps that existed during World War II.

Concurrent Exhibit: Preservation Project Exhibit: Portrait of Eliza Tooke Martin and Portrait of a Lady

This preservation project was made possible with support from the Office of the Provost. The two paintings were conserved by Eileen Sullivan during spring 2019 and returned to campus in November 2019.

All exhibits are free and open to the public. We look forward to your visit to the gallery. Gallery hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information contact Lori Houtz at 585-245-5841 or Cynthia Hawkins at 585-245-5813
