The 1860’s Italianate townhouse with its unique four seasons lace ironwork is approximately 10,000 square feet and is filled with period furnishings. Cornelius and Baker chandeliers, Carrara marble mantels in the double parlors, a cantilevered staircase in th

e entry hallway along with the ruby Bohemian glass lights surrounding the front door offer visitors a peak into how Captain Charles Richards and his wife Caroline Elizabeth Steele Richards lived in downtown Mobile in that time period. The Richards-DAR House Museum was built in 1860 for Captain Charles G. Richards and his wife Caroline Elizabeth Steele. It remained within their family until 1946 when the home was sold to the Ideal Cement Company. After operating as a business for many years, the Ideal Cement Company donated it to the City of Mobile. The home was restored and has been lovingly maintained by the four local Mobile DAR chapters since 1973. The 1860’s house museum known for its unique four seasons iron lace is magnificently decorated with intricately carved Carrara mantels and original Cornelius chandeliers in its spacious double parlors. The large entry hallway with its beautiful cantilevered stairway, box grand piano, and a Cornelius chandelier add to the elegance of this historic home. The formal dining room complete with a banquet size table and one of Mobile’s largest Baccarat crystal chandeliers provide the perfect setting for entertaining guests for any event. The Richards-DAR House Museum is available for a variety of events, along with our almost daily guided house tours. We host a variety of events throughout the year; our annual events are our Christmas Celebration and Spring Garden party. We also have periodic guest lectures, book signings, haunted tours, and other events throughout the year. We welcome private parties, weddings, and other private events. Retail Fee List:

The d’Iberville Chapter of DAR was pleased to host Mr. Vaughn Drinkard of Cornerstone Gardens, a renowned camellia expert, at today’s meeting. He graciously offered to donate a ‘Vaughn Drinkard’ camellia named in his honor—one with special historic ties to Mobile—and will also share his expertise to help us properly maintain and care for the beautiful camellias at the Richards-DAR House Museum. We are so grateful for his knowledge and generosity! 🌸
