Situated on historic Museum Row since 1965, the Craft & Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) is an invaluable contributor to Los Angeles culture, exhibiting current artists with intriguing perspectives and distinctive practices. Exploring the leading edge of craft, art, and design, CAFAM gives audience to diverse makers and artists whose work is often not represented in larger art institutions. CAFAM coordinates a robust roster of hands-on workshops led by professional artists and makers. Uncommon discoveries are also guaranteed at the CAFAM Shop, which offers an expertly curated array of handmade items from skilled artisans. Opening November 15, 2026, Craft Contemporary is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibitions! Following our elemental cycle, the exhibitions and Maker-in-Residence will explore the interactions between craft and fire.

𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘰𝘴 𝘊𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰 𝘈𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘴: 𝘝𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮𝘰 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘭 stages a confrontation between two craft traditions: European bronze and traditional crafts of communities across Colombia. Like fire, an element marked by its capacity for transformation, the works displayed here suggest the possibility of ongoing renewal and critique.

𝘌𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 features the California Community Foundation’s 2026-2027 Fellowship for Visual Artists cohort. The works in the exhibition acknowledge fire's destructive power while also understanding it as a source of life that creates the conditions for regeneration.

As Maker-in-Residence at Craft Contemporary, the Meztli Projects’ program, 𝘓𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘰 𝘍𝘶𝘦𝘨𝘰 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭, explores fire as ritual and material force.

Developed in partnership with the Institute of Art and Olfaction The Institute for Art and Olfaction and created by master perfumer, Saskia Wilson-Brown Saskia Wilson-Brown, 𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢 was inspired by the exhibition and curatorial vision of Craft Contemporary's Senior Curator Frida Cano. As the inaugural scent in a four-part series exploring earth, water, air, and fire, it invites you to experience craft through one of our most evocative senses: smell.
 
More than a fragrance, 𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢 reflects Craft Contemporary's ongoing exploration of the natural elements and their relationship to contemporary craft, sustainability, accessibility, and our shared connection to the rhythms of the Earth.

This is a workshop making prickly paint!🌵🎨 Prickly Paint is the fun name we gave to our homemade paint used for our gallery walls in our current exhibition 𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢. Prickly paint is made out of blended nopal slime, hydrated lime powder rock salt, and natural pigments. During this workshop participants got to make their own color swatches, share amongst each other, and experiment with the material. At the end we created a community mural meditating on the idea of "home" and "tierra." It's withstood some pretty heavy rains since then, but soon this paint will be washed away and returned to the earth as some day we all do.

Join us for a hike near Griffith Park and get to know the soil beneath your feet while creating a ceramic piece using locally processed clay. Guided by clay artist Evelyn Hernández, participants will learn to identify clay and earthen pigments in their natural habitat while deepening their relationship to the land they stand on. In between the hike, you’ll have the opportunity to shape clay, drawing inspiration from your surroundings.
 
This workshop will take place offsite and outdoors. Exact location will be provided after ticket confirmation.

Join CLAYDD 501c3 non profit for a day of healing through sound and clay! We’ll begin with a guided meditation and sound bath led by a CLAYDD healer in our gallery where our current clay biennial tierra is on view. After grounding through these practices, we’ll transition into a hands-on clay experience, inviting participants to reflect and express what came up during the sound journey by shaping their clay. Join us in creating a space to slow down, reconnect with ourselves and earth.
 
This workshop will take place in our gallery.
