Museum of Tolerance challenges visitors to understand the Holocaust and confront all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today.
(1692)

The Museum of Tolerance (MOT) is the educational arm of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, an internationally renowned Jewish human rights organization. The only museum of its kind in the world, the MOT is dedicated to challenging visitors to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts and confront all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today. Established in 1993, the MOT has welcomed over five million visitors, mostly middle and high school students. Visitors become witnesses to history and explore the dynamics of bigotry and discrimination that are still embedded in society today. Through interactive exhibits, special events, and customized programs for youths and adults, the Museum engages visitors’ hearts and minds, while challenging them to assume personal responsibility for positive change. Imagine entering the world while your family was hiding from the N***s.

This was the beginning of Dr. Jack Wetter's life. Born during the Holocaust, he spent his earliest days in a small basement that his parents had secretly leased from the wife of a Gestapo officer.

On Sunday, October 25, join us at the Museum of Tolerance as Dr. Wetter shares his remarkable personal story as part of our Witness to Truth Speaker Series.

For over 30 years, Holocaust survivors have volunteered their time to share their experiences with Museum visitors, ensuring their stories continue to educate and inspire future generations.

The session will include a Q&A, offering visitors the opportunity to engage directly with Dr. Wetter.

Join us at the Museum of Tolerance on Sunday, October 18, to hear the remarkable story of Harry Davids as part of our Witness to Truth speaker series.

Harry was born in N**i-occupied Holland in 1942 to German Jewish parents who had fled Germany for the Netherlands. Soon after his birth, his parents made the difficult decision to entrust him to members of the Dutch Resistance, who arranged for him to be hidden with the Bakkers, a Protestant family in the small town of Engwierum.

After the war, Harry eventually joined relatives in South Africa and began learning about the past that had been hidden from him. He has spent his life tracing his family history and uncovering the story of the parents he never knew. We invite you to join us for Harry’s testimony and this important opportunity to learn from his story.

This Banned Books Week, we’re celebrating the freedom to read and standing up for the freedom to learn.

Anne Frank’s diary has become one of the world’s most widely recognized firsthand accounts of the Holocaust, introducing generations of readers to Anne’s life and experiences. Yet her diary has also faced censorship and challenges.

At the Museum of Tolerance, “Anne” invites visitors to experience the story behind the diary. Through replicas of Anne’s belongings, family photographs, rare documents, videos, firsthand accounts and excerpts from her writing narrated by actress Hailee Steinfeld, visitors follow Anne’s journey from childhood through her time in hiding and discover the lasting legacy of the words she left behind.

Anne’s story is a powerful reminder of what is at stake when access to books, history and firsthand testimony is restricted. This Banned Books Week, we reaffirm the importance of keeping those stories available to read, learn from and remember.

Beginning at dusk on Oct. 6, the Museum of Tolerance will light its Los Angeles building in blue in recognition of the third anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attacks.

Through Oct. 9, the blue light will shine as a beacon of hope for peace, healing, and a more tolerant future; a tribute to those returning home and a memorial to those who perished.

For four nights, this light will serve as a visible act of remembrance for the lives lost, the survivors, and the families who continue to carry the pain of that day.

We remember.

🎬 The story behind the founding of the Museum of Tolerance is coming to the screen.

The Hollywood Rabbi, an award-winning documentary, tells the story of Rabbi Marvin Hier, who founded the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles in 1977 and expanded that vision with the opening of the Museum of Tolerance in 1993.

The film follows Rabbi Hier’s remarkable journey and the commitment to Holocaust education, remembrance and tolerance that helped bring the Museum to life.

After screenings across North America and winning the Audience Award for Best Film at the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival, The Hollywood Rabbi is coming soon to select theaters and Netflix.

We’re proud to see the story behind the Museum of Tolerance and the man who founded it reach audiences everywhere.

Today, on the anniversary of Simon Wiesenthal’s passing, we remember the man whose pursuit of justice became his life’s work.

Visitors to the Museum of Tolerance can step into a remarkable piece of that history: Wiesenthal’s original Vienna office, transported to Los Angeles with its documents, furniture and books. Together with a multimedia presentation, the exhibition tells the story of his decades spent documenting N**i crimes, preserving evidence and helping bring perpetrators to justice.

The office offers more than a glimpse into where Wiesenthal worked. It provides a tangible connection to a man who understood the importance of preserving the past for future generations.

“Hope lives when people remember.”

We invite you to visit and experience Simon Wiesenthal’s office and legacy for yourself. Learn more: https://museumoftolerance.com/visit/exhibits/holocaust-exhibit
