A Taiwanese Brand Combining Art and Lif
e
President of GP DEVA Group, Carol Chou, originally worked in the banking industry. A trip to the United States 20 years ago gave her the idea of creating a brand from Taiwan. At the time, walking on the boulevard in Beverly Hills lined with boutiques and flagship stores from countries around the world, yet there was no brand from Taiwan. A thought occurred to her, "Taiwan has talent and technology, we should be known for more than just manufacturing." Her vision for a Taiwanese brand to shine in the global arena was the spark of something great to be realized. This dream became a reality in 2003 with the establishment of GP DEVA Group. As a major fashion brand in Asia, GP DEVA was the first in combining fashion and art. GP DEVA owns the art licensing rights of many represented and associated artists. With products ranging from jewelry, furniture, leather goods, porcelain, watches, stationery, clothing, bedding, exquisite travel goods, and natural botanical skin care products, GP DEVA Group upholds the brand's philosophy and core value of "Living an artistically enhanced luxury lifestyle," while operating an international brand. In 2004, GP DEVA opened its flagship store in America's most upscale Beverly Hills retail center, becoming the only brand from Asia to set up a store in this district. Currently GP DEVA has flagship stores in the United States, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Qingdao, Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. So with the spark of inspiration, Carol left the foreign banking world and transitioned into the luxury goods and art industry. When first trying to establish GP DEVA into the US market, Carol notes that, "Operating a brand is by no means easy, especially to be located in Beverly Hills, the global center of fashion boutique world." She positioned GP DEVA from its inception as a "Made in Taiwan" international fashion and luxury brand, targeting the sophisticated consumer market. An Art Master's Original Totemic Energy Creation as a Starting Point
Once established, GP DEVA invited contemporary art master Professor Lee Sun-Don as the creative director, taking "Totemic Energy Art" as its creative origin and integrating these designs into exquisite jewelry, finest grade skincare products, contemporary furniture, artistic space, and other aesthetic designs. Lee Sun-Don believes that infusing the cultural spirit into the product, creates value which is the real spirit of cultural creativity. Although Lee is now a world renowned artist, his background actually roots from a more humble spiritual source, being the patriarch of Forshang Buddhism, headquartered in the mountains of Dansui in Taiwan. His artistic career actually began as a result of his spiritual journey. Dedicated to mission of promoting compassion, he found that art and beauty was a universal medium that transcends all cultural, religious, and language barriers. And as his revolutionary Totemic Energy Art began to spread, Master Lee was then invited in 2009 to participate in one of the world's most exclusive art exhibitions, the Venice Biennale. Master Lee became the first artist from Asia in the past century to have been invited to exhibit in a solo oil painting pavilion. In 2010, Master Lee was again sought out and invited to serve as the art director for a new international art fair – Art Revolution Taipei. This revolutionary art fair was to turn the entire art world upside down, where an entire art fair was dedicated to the artists, rather than the traditional gallery approach. With no guarantee that this kind of fair could exist, Master Lee took up this challenge without any hesitation. Five years later, ART is a thriving leader and heralded as top 3 art fairs in all of Asia. And Art Director Lee still continuously surpassing the status quo in the art world. His most recent venture in April of 2014, Master Lee accepted the invitation from the CEO of DiMora Motorcar, a top luxury sports car manufacturer, who was dubbed at the “Rolls Royce of the United States, to begin a cross-industry cooperation to create the an unprecedented Neoclassic style artistic supercar. This ultimate luxury "Neoclassic” artistic supercar is a creation of a hand-built classic DiMora vintage car model, in collaboration with Professor Lee, to acquire the authorization to use his totemic energy painting “Great Treasure Gate” series on the car body. This entire work of art embodies DiMora's signature hand-built technology and the “Neoclassic” style of an art master. The painting featured on each Vicci 6.2 is the one and only edition. GP DEVA Group continually strives for the promotion of Chinese culture, contemporary arts and crafts and other cultural and creative industries, hoping to create incredible products for mankind, allowing the body and mind to achieve contentment and happiness, and an even higher state of consciousness. In 2014, GP DEVA Group participated in the Hong Kong Licensing Expo, to further extend contemporary art of Taiwan to the world. In June of 2014, GP DEVA chose the world's most influential licensing show, Licensing Expo as the first international debut in the West Coast of the United States. Through this platform, where all the world's top retail companies come every year to find new and innovative partners, GP DEVA will continue to expand the brand image, while building international partnerships in order to stay current with latest trends in the licensing areas worldwide, and master future trends of the market.
