Wharton in the Present Tense: A remarkable literary discovery is making headlines!

An Edith Wharton Story Is Published About 100 Years Later

In a recent article from the New York Times, readers are introduced to a previously unpublished Edith Wharton short story, The Men Who Saved the World, written more than a century ago and only recently brought to light. We're thrilled to see renewed attention on Wharton's work and legacy! Our first jazz concert of the summer was a huge success with delicious food from The Notorious B.I.T.E. and Flavorful Bites food trucks, face painting and a lively kids zone, drinks from the Terrace Bar, and of course, stunning music from Natalia Bernal Quintet! We couldn't have asked for a better way to invite the community to gather, inspire, and connect here at The Mount. Thank you for joining us!

Our next Sounds of Summer Concert takes place on August 27 at 5:30 pm and features GATO6 and Suzi Stern. Be sure to save the date!

JUNE 11 | 5:30 pm
The Mount, Lenox, MA

🎶 On June 11, singer, composer, and recording artist Natalia Bernal blends the vibrant rhythms of Latin America—huayno, candombe, samba, bossa nova, and chacarera —with North American traditions such as jazz and swing.

Bring a blanket, stretch out on the lawn, and enjoy a picnic—or grab a bite from the food truck in the Forecourt. 🍋🍸 Signature cocktails and refreshing drinks will be available at the Terrace Bar.

A Kid Zone with lawn games, crafts, and other fun activities will be set up on the lawn near the French Garden. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome!

What a remarkable three days at the 2026 Edith Wharton Summit at The Mount!

For the first time in a decade, scholars, writers, researchers, and admirers of Edith Wharton's work gathered to share new research, fresh perspectives, and lively conversations inspired by one of America's most influential literary voices.

The 2026 Summit marked the first major Edith Wharton conference since 2016, and the first conference hosted at The Mount in nearly 40 years—the last taking place here in 1987!

We were also honored to celebrate the recipients of the Edith Wharton Lifetime Achievement Award, Irene Goldman-Price and Alan Price, in recognition of extraordinary and enduring contributions to the field of Edith Wharton scholarship.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this gathering! It was a joy to see The Mount once again serve as a place for discovery, dialogue, and a shared appreciation of Edith Wharton's legacy.
