🚂Happy 4th of July from the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum!

Today, as we gather with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day, our crew wishes our wonderful community a safe, happy, and memorable holiday!

Independence Day is a time to reflect on the journeys that shaped our nation. Just as the railroads historically connected communities, bridged divides, and moved America forward, today is about celebrating the shared bonds that unite us all. We are incredibly proud to preserve a piece of that rich American heritage right here in the beautiful Berkshire hills.

Our museum in Lenox will be closed today, but our dedicated volunteers are actively preparing for our Hoosac Valley Train rides in Adams, MA. Our 4th of July Train has sold out, but seats are still available on our 1:30 PM & 3:00 PM ice cream trains.

A TEACHABLE MOMENT
One of the most important aspects of our mission is passing on the knowledge and wisdom of how to keep our historic railroad equipment operational. In fact, places like BSRM represent one of the last places this allows this level of access to the next generation to future railroaders and preservationist.

Here, Chief Mechanical Officer Tom Delasco explains the process of starting the locomotive to one of our rising star volunteers, Brett Codwise. While the training begins in the classroom, the real learning takes place in moments like these.

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting a fantastic group of scouts this past weekend as they worked toward earning their Railroading Merit Badge! 🚂

It was a busy and rewarding day, with our dedicated volunteers guiding the scouts through classroom sessions and a railyard tour at our Lenox Station. The scouts then traveled to Adams, MA to enjoy a ride through our Hoosac Valley Train service.

Seeing the next generation engage with rail history is what we’re all about. Huge thanks to our volunteers for sharing their expertise and to the scouts for being such an attentive and enthusiastic group. Great work, everyone!

What part of the tour do you think was the highlight for the scouts?

An absolutely gorgeous morning here at the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum! Can you imagine how stunning these trains would look running down the track?

We are closed today for a private event but hope to have you join us at the museum in Lenox on our next scheduled operating day July 11 from 10 AM - 2 PM.

How would you like to get your hands on this beauty?! We are seeking volunteers with experience maintaining heavy machinery such as this along with our fleet of vintage trains.

If you love big engines, historic preservation, and getting your hands a little dirty, we’d love to have you on the team. By volunteering with us, you’ll keep history moving and get the chance to hang out with an incredible crew.
