Today was an exciting day! ❤️

A local family shared photos of their grandmother, Anna Caroline Ostreng Olson. Anna worked for the Hixon family in the early to mid-1890s, then at the La Crosse Rubber Mills.

This solo portrait is of Anna, and the others are with some of her friends. Do you know these women? Could they be coworkers from the Rubber Mills or fellow domestic staff from Hixon House?!

We hope to see you tonight to Celebrate America's Birthday at Hixon House! Enjoy an evening of old-fashioned lawn games, free main-floor tours of Hixon House, and root beer floats featuring ice cream from The Pearl Ice Cream Parlor & Confectionery and root beer from Rudy's!

Then, at 9:00 pm, enjoy an authentic 1876-style fireworks demonstration presented by the La Crosse Skyrockers, Inc!

🚧 Hixon House Restoration Update: You might have noticed some yellow caution tape at Hixon House—but don't worry, we're still open for tours!

Progress is being made as steps and railings are rebuilt to improve safety and bring them into compliance with current building codes. While the new stairways will closely match the historic appearance of the originals, they are being carefully reconstructed to provide a safer experience for visitors and staff.

We have a wonderful team of volunteers caring for the garden!

LCHS volunteer gardeners are out in the heat caring for Hixon House's garden! They just recently planted wild blue lupine, the exclusive food source of Karner blue butterflies.
