National Puerto Rican Diaspora Museum

National Puerto Rican Diaspora Museum The Museum will exhibit this material to the public – first as a digital museum and eventually as a physical space.

Historical Preservation
The primary goals and objectives are to research, preserve and promote the rich and unique history of the Diaspora of the Puerto Rican people and their contributions to life in the United States in every sector of society. Although the Puerto Rican Diaspora to the United States begins in 1898, the material manifestations and history of this socio-political, economic, cultur

al, and transnational relationship of 125 years plus has not been adequately or sufficiently documented. The most marked migration period occurs in the 1950s, as a result of Operation Bootstrap, when the largest influx of Puerto Ricans migrated to the United States. The NPRDM’S primary goal is to collect and preserve and make accessible to the public and scholars, primary cultural material on the Puerto Rican experience throughout the United States.

Loíza sits on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico.
It is the oldest continuously inhabited African community in Puerto Rico — founded by formerly enslaved Africans in the 1500s who established a free settlement that survived every colonial administration that followed.
The bomba drum was born here. The vejigante mask tradition took root here. The feast of Santiago Apóstol — one of the most extraordinary cultural celebrations in the Caribbean — has been held here every July for over four hundred years.
Loíza carries the African thread of Puerto Rican identity more visibly than anywhere else on the island. It was marginalized for it. Called backward. Ignored by the colonial infrastructure that invested everywhere else first.
It survived anyway. Of course it did.
Your blood runs through here too. Both roots. All of it.
Still here. Still us.

🚨🇵🇷 MASS RESIGNATIONS SHAKE PUERTO RICO’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AGENCY 🇵🇷🚨

Puerto Rico’s government was hit with major political turbulence this week after Economic Development and Commerce Secretary Sebastián Negrón Reichard, along with more than 10 senior officials, abruptly resigned from their positions. The resignations included key figures responsible for finance, legal affairs, economic incentives, and near-shoring programs — departments considered critical to Puerto Rico’s economic strategy and investment efforts.

According to public statements, the crisis erupted after internal disputes involving alleged government interference in agency operations. Negrón Reichard reportedly criticized the administration of Governor Jenniffer González over interventions tied to internal investigations and procurement-related suspensions that were later reversed. In his resignation statement, he stated that trust between himself and the governor had completely broken down, making it impossible to continue serving while maintaining institutional integrity.

The political fallout could have major economic implications for Puerto Rico at a time when the island is aggressively trying to attract pharmaceutical manufacturing, outside investment, and emerging industries such as cryptocurrency and near-shoring. Critics warn the resignations could disrupt confidence in long-term economic initiatives, while supporters of the administration argue the government must maintain oversight over public agencies. The controversy has also intensified tensions inside Puerto Rico’s own pro-statehood political leadership, with Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz calling the situation “extremely regrettable” and suggesting possible legislative investigations if evidence of misconduct emerges.
