Eugene Science Center Visit the Eugene Science Center for hands-on exhibits, planetarium shows, special events, summer camps, workshops, and more!

The Science Factory was founded in 1961 as a branch of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). It was incorporated in 1977 as the Willamette Science & Technology Center (WISTEC), an independent 501(c)(3) corporation. The name "Science Factory" was adopted in 2002. We are the only science center in Lane and surrounding counties. We provide a variety of educational programming including interactive exhibitions, planetarium shows and presentations, school programs, science camps, and special events. We primarily serve children ages 0 to 14 along with their families, teachers, and guardians.

Mission: To engage children, excite their curiosity, inspire them toward a lifelong love of science, and empower them to use science and technology to improve their communities.

On July 19th, 1969 the Apollo 11 spacecraft entered lunar orbit. It was the fourth day of the mission and just one day before Armstrong & Aldrin landed on the surface in the lunar module, Eagle (pictured here), and took the first steps on the moon.

We can’t wait to continue celebrating the 50th anniversary of this historic event with our APOLLOPALOOZA festival happening tomorrow from 10am-5pm. There will be rocket launches, food trucks, live entertainment, interactive planetarium shows and activities all throughout our lawn and exhibit hall. The first 200 guests will also get their own @NASA sticker. We hope to see you there! @ Eugene Science Center

100 years ago today, the first strong observational evidence to support Einstein's theory of general relativity was collected during a Total Solar Eclipse. Find out more in this NASA video below. #onthisday #totalsolareclipse #1919eclipse

Total solar eclipses are rare events, occurring only every 18 months or so. But even rarer is an eclipse that changes our understanding of the entire universe. One hundred years ago today, astronomers led by the Royal Observatory collected the first strong evidence supporting Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Einstein theorized that massive objects like the Sun warp space-time and should cause light to bend around them.

To test this prediction, teams traveled to Sobral, Brazil, and the island of Príncipe off the coast of western Africa to view the total solar eclipse on May 29, 1919. Find out more about their observations, the light-bending effects of large masses, and solar eclipses in general with this video developed by NASA’s #UniverseofLearning: https://viewspace.org/#content-wrapper

Meet our featured mathematician at tomorrow's Mathematical Marvels event: Sarah Hagen
Sarah studies the equations that model fluid flow, with the goal of better understanding turbulence in fluids. Her research is in partial differential equations and theoretical fluid dynamics.

Sarah's activity is called “Order and Chaos in Moving Water”.

Come explore the relationship between mathematics and the natural world with a hands-on activity that is fun for all ages. Create beautiful designs and investigate chaotic behavior with our mesmerizing ‘flow-visualization fluid’. Don’t be surprised if by the end you see mathematics in a new light!

Mathematical Marvels takes place at Eugene Science Center from 1pm - 4pm, Saturday, May 4th. Included with general admission.
