In 1974, the Edmund Fitzgerald lost an anchor in the Detroit River some 800 feet off Riopelle Street and east of the Renaissance Center. After being discovered by divers and removed from the water in summer of 1992, the 12,290 pound starboard bow anchor was brought to the Dossin Great Lakes Museum for display. It’s now part of our Lost Mariners Memorial, honoring all lives lost on the inland seas.
