Pewabic, founded in Detroit in 1903, is a community of makers, educators and innovators devoted to progressing ceramics. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to making ceramics relevant and accessible to all by supporting artistic innovation and creating meaningful learning experiences. We achieve this through a rotation of contemporary ceramic exhibitions, adult and youth educational progra

ms, and the production of ceramic tile and giftware. We encourage the public to tour our National Historic Landmark pottery for free during regular business hours.

Pewabic Pottery will be closed today, Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. We remember and celebrate the resilience of those who continue to advocate for equality and justice in our country.

Our hope is that we can move forward as a nation with compassion, empathy, and the belief that all human beings are deserving of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

In exactly one week on June 23, you can join a Pewabic docent who will lead you through a guided tour of the first major tile installation that Founder, Mary Chase Perry Stratton, created for a sacred space. In 1909, Mary won the contract to design the cathedral’s floor tiles in an open competition against the nation’s top potteries.
