Ludlow St on the Historic Courthouse Plaza in downtown Dayton, Ohio. The Museum was founded in 2004. The Museum is open from 10 to 5 pm every Friday and Saturday with many scheduled events throughout the week. Check our website for the most up-to-date information. on through education and collaboration. Vision: We provide inspiration and the opportunity to learn alternatives to war, violence, and injustice. Our programs and exhibits are non-partisan, and secular, and feature themes of conflict resolution, equity, social justice, tolerance, and protecting our natural world. Posts and reposts that appear on this site are not official museum endorsements and are provided to encourage peaceful dialogue on many different topics, viewpoints, news items, and perspectives. We honor Dayton’s history as host of the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords and home to the most comprehensive exhibit of its kind on the subject. We believe strongly in collaboration with similarly-missioned organizations in the Miami Valley and in the world are active members of the Peace in Our Cities global initiative, the Austrian Service Abroad program, the Association of Children's Museums, and are active on the advisory board of the International Network of Museums of Peace based in Kyoto. Our programs include Building Peace: a series of guest speakers on special topics, the MLK Dialogues series, a Great Discussions program on current geopolitical events, quarterly exhibits, teen programs, guided meditation, yoga, a children’s summer camp, and an annual summer program for teens and adults on subjects ranging from Kingian Nonviolence training, compassion education, peace literacy to human rights. We are the official repository of each fiction and nonfiction book submitted annually to the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Recent winners of the Richard Holbrooke Award include John Irving, Hala Alyan, and Ta-Nehisi Coates.

During this special gathering, the BE Global Initiative will formally receive an official City of Dayton Proclamation designating September 10 as World Su***de Prevention Awareness Day.

This recognition is an important reminder of the power of awareness, compassion, and connection, and of the role each of us can play in creating communities where people feel seen, supported, and valued.

We recently had the privilege of gathering to remember and celebrate the extraordinary life of Christine Dull, a radiant and tireless champion of peace and co-founder of our Museum.

The room was filled with stories, music, laughter, tears, and, most importantly, Chris’s spirit. Two of her sons shared their beautiful music, while family and friends offered memories of her remarkable life and unwavering commitment to peace.

Ambassador Tony Hall shared personal stories of his friendship and advocacy with Chris and Ralph, reminding us how fervently they worked for peace and how deeply they believed ordinary people could create extraordinary change.

Throughout the gathering, one word kept coming to mind: Legacy.

We often think of a legacy as something someone leaves behind. But Christine’s legacy isn’t behind us.

It is in front of us.

It lives in every child who walks through our doors and begins to imagine a more peaceful world. In every conversation that helps us see one another differently. In every exhibition, program, partnership, act of courage, and choice to seek understanding instead of division.

Soon, we will carry that living legacy forward with Pathways to Peace: Peace Is a Verb, a new series exploring the many ways people are actively creating peace in Dayton and beyond.

Because peace is not simply something we hope for. Peace is something we do.

Christine believed deeply in this Museum and its future. Now it is up to all of us to carry that vision forward. One project, one conversation, one act of peace at a time.

Christine’s legacy is in front of us. And what we do with it is up to all of us.

💛 A Big Thank You and Farewell to Jon!

It’s never easy to say goodbye to someone who has become such an important part of the Museum family.

August 14 will be Jon’s last day with us, and while we’ll miss having him here, we’re excited to see where his next chapter takes him!

Jon has contributed so much to the Dayton International Peace Museum, and we’re grateful for the time, talent, and dedication he’s shared with our team and community.

Next up: Jon is heading to Boca Raton, Florida, to continue his career as a curator!

🎨🕊️ A summer of creativity, connection, and peace!

For the fourth year in a row, we were honored to welcome Westminster's MADD Camp to the International Peace Museum. Campers created Ribbon Wishes and Origami Cranes, beautiful symbols of hope that remind us how small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact.

This summer also marked an exciting first as we welcomed the Carol A. Prewitt Summer Art Camp. It was a joy to spend time with these talented young artists and see their creativity come to life.

At the International Peace Museum, we believe every young person has the power to help build a more peaceful world. Through art, learning, and shared experiences, these campers discovered how creativity can foster understanding and bring people together.

Thank you to Westminster's MADD Camp, Carol Prewitt's Summer Art Camp, and everyone who made these visits so special. We look forward to welcoming more young peacebuilders in the future!

🎉 We’re proud to celebrate our Executive Director, Alice Young-Basora, who is featured in a new article on the Foundation’s website as one of this year’s Dayton Democracy Fellows.

In the article, Alice reflects on her belief that peace and democracy begin with listening and shares how the Dayton International Peace Museum creates spaces for dialogue, understanding, and community connection.

The Kettering Foundation’s Dayton Democracy Fellowship recognizes innovative leaders, changemakers, and dreamers who are strengthening inclusive democracy in their communities and beyond.
