This Sunday, Aug. 30, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration is launching a telescope that could change how we see the universe.

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, and it could measure light from a billion galaxies in its lifetime. It will also be able to block starlight to directly see exoplanets and planet-forming disks, and help settle major questions about dark energy and infrared astrophysics.

So who is it named after? Nancy Grace Roman was an American astronomer who became the first female executive at NASA, serving as the agency's first Chief of Astronomy through the 1960s and 70s. She's often called the "Mother of Hubble" for her foundational role in planning the Hubble Space Telescope, and she built much of NASA's space astronomy program from the ground up.

She spent decades blazing a trail so others could look further than she ever could.
