Congratulations to Marie Miscinski for winning 5th place at NHD for her junior individual website, “Paving the Way to Success: How the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 Shaped the American Frontier.” Way to go, Marie!

Please congratulate junior division students Arnav Chaphalkar and Alex Rechitsky for their performance, “The Fall of the Berlin Wall: How Gorbachev’s Leadership Led to the Crossing of a Monumental Frontier in History.” And for the senior division, please congratulate Danial Pitafi, Olivia Mathias, Sam Byrd, and Theodor Martin for their performance, “Building the Double Helix: Expanding Frontiers in Science and Representation.” Well done!

Spend the summer uncovering Latino/a/x stories at the Chicago History Museum! We’re seeking 8 interns to support our upcoming exhibition Aquí en Chicago, opening in fall 2025. Participants will conduct research regarding Latino/a/x peoples and communities in the Chicago metro area, learn how an exhibition goes from concept to reality, develop research and writing skills, and more.
Positions are open to people ages 16–20 who are not yet attending university. Expected work time is 15 hours/week with payment at $16/hour for 8 weeks. Applications due Sunday, 4/23. Learn more: http://ow.ly/kVsF50NAu6R

There’s a new effort to get historical landmark status for an industrial building in Chicago’s West Loop that once housed the Warehouse nightclub, where famed DJ and Producer Frankie Knuckles is widely credited with creating House music.

Our 2023 Junior Division (grades 6-8) contest will be on March 4th and our Senior Division (grades 9-12) contest will be on March 11th, both at the University of Illinois Chicago, 750 S. Halsted. We will have morning and afternoon judging slots on each day and food will be provided.
For more details and to register, please visit il-chimetro.nhd.org. You will need to create a new account, even if you have judged with us in the past. Go to “create an account” and then “judge” to begin the registration process.

Our History Day Research Palooza event with UIC Daley Library has been canceled due to the ongoing strike.
