How cool is this!

Claire Blakemore, Historical Archives Assistant at the Chicago Bears (and longtime History Day judge, former History Day teacher, AND former History Day student!) showed off her sweet Chicago Metro History Day shoes for !

While NFL players have been participating in the My Cause My Cleats initiative for 8 years, this is the first year that everyone in the Bears organization has been invited to support an organization of their choice through custom cleats.

Claire says: "A sincere thank you to the Chicago Bears and the Bears Young Professionals ERG for providing the opportunity for staff to amplify a cause close to us for . I immediately knew I wanted to design shoes to highlight the inspiring work Chicago Metro History Day does to support student historians through project-based inquiry learning. I can’t wait to showcase my shoes on Sunday against the Lions, and at future History Day events."

Thanks, Claire!

CMHD teacher Josue Contreras and student Joshua Mendez participated in National History Day's Sacrifice for Freedom program this summer in Hawai'i. They researched the history of Private First Class Felipe Sanchez, a Mexican immigrant who worked at Inland Steel and found refuge at Hull-House before enlisting in 1942. He died during Operation Iceberg in Okinawa. Today we lift up his story, as researched by Mr. Contreras and Joshua Mendez. Joshua attends Wheaton North High School, and Mr. Contreras teaches at Harriet Beecher Stowe Dual Language School in Chicago.
