Goodbye research log - hello Zotero - The Golden Egg Genealogist

I recently stumbled upon this lady's blog and found a lot of new information. Sometimes, I think I get into a rut, thinking I have seen/read/heard of all the tricks and tools. And then, voila! Something new hits me and breathes a breath of fresh air and excitement! I'm guessing many of you already know of GEG and her tips & tricks. But for those who are familiar, please check her out! And - is anyone already using Zotero? Sounds like a plan to me!

The old-fashioned research log had a purpose in its time. Computers improved it. Zotero replaced it. Hail and farewell to the research log.

Hegeler Carus Mansion

Hegeler Carus Mansion

Here is a slideshow of photos taken of the Night Blooming Cereus. We documented the blooms by photographing it every 3 minutes from 6:00 pm until about 10:30 when it started to fade.
The plant is about 120 years old. It's been lovingly cared for this year by one of our volunteers. Jerry nursed the plant to such good health that we had four blooms over three days.
We haven't captured the plant in bloom since October of 2010.
This slideshow is of two blooms that put on quite a show on Friday, September 1, 2017.

I always wonder about this (A/C) and heating in these old homes.

Want to know how a home stayed cool before air conditioning? The Hegeler Carus Mansion offers an example of how building design helped keep a house cool when the weather heats up.

Hegeler Carus Mansion

Upsetting news from the Hegeler Carus Mansion.

Dear Friends, Supporters and Volunteers-
Early Sunday morning the Hegeler Carus Mansion suffered a break in.
A man and woman were seen on our security cameras trespassing on our grounds in the early morning hours. The man was filmed forcing access through a ground floor window and attempting to allow his accomplice to enter the house. Fortunately, once inside he quickly triggered one of our security alarms. They fled before anyone arrived to capture them.

We would like to thank and commend the La Salle Police department for their quick response, extensive search of the Mansion and grounds and for the respect they showed for the Mansion, the artifacts within, and our staff.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the La Salle Police Department.

The Hegeler Carus Mansion will re-open for tours as usual on Wednesday.

Thank you for your continued support and friendship.

I am looking to identify this house that my great great great grandmother lived in somewhere in Chicago. Would appreciate any info or resources to help me identify the address and find out if the house is still standing.
I'm a signpainter in Elgin, IL and can provide professional brush-lettered house signs, name signs, or date signs ('This house dates from....') in a professional and traditional manner. The one pictured here is gilded with gold-leaf (and expensive!), but even just a painted one can look nice. All hand-lettered the professional way! PM me with your details if interested.
