Cape May Maritime Museum

Cape May Maritime Museum The Cape May Maritime Museum is dedicated to preserving the United States Coast Guard and commercial maritime history of the Cape May, NJ area.

Cape May Maritime Museum’s current undertaking is the tedious restoration of the Motor Lifeboat CG-36538 by a dedicated group of skilled volunteers. Our goal is to maintain the historical accuracy, design and look of the original motor lifeboat [top image circa 1950s] and to make it seaworthy as well. The lifeboat is presently located in an indoor facility in the Cape May, NJ area and is open to the public for guided tours.

Step back into World War II–era South Jersey this summer 🇺🇸

Following the success of The Longest Yarn exhibit in 2025, Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is proud to welcome a new traveling exhibit to Historic Hangar #1—“Camp Boardwalk: Atlantic City During World War II.”

From 1942–1945, Atlantic City became “Camp Boardwalk”—a bustling military hub where hotels turned into barracks, ballrooms became drill halls, and the famous Boardwalk played a key role in training America’s armed forces.

This powerful exhibit brings that story to life through firsthand accounts, rare artifacts, and personal stories of servicemen, nurses, volunteers, and civilians who supported the war effort on the home front.

Curated by Dr. Patricia Chappine of Stockton University—a friend of the museum who has presented multiple lectures at NAS Wildwood on the vital role of women in World War II New Jersey—the exhibit highlights the diverse contributions that shaped our region’s wartime identity.

📍 Opening May 1, 2026
📅 On display through Labor Day (September 7, 2026)
✈️ Included during AirFest 2026 weekend

Set inside a real WWII dive-bomber training base, this exhibit connects Atlantic City’s homefront story with the aviation history that took place right here in Cape May County.

Come experience this unique chapter of history—right where it happened.

When the Middle East heats up, most people don’t realize this:

The Coast Guard has been there for over 30 years.

Desert Storm.
Iraqi Freedom.

And since 2002, Patrol Forces Southwest Asia — PATFORSWA — has been permanently forward deployed to Bahrain.

They operate Coast Guard patrol boats under U.S. Fifth Fleet.
They es**rt vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
They conduct security boardings in one of the most strategic waterways in the world.

Right now, our thoughts are with the Coasties — and all fellow service members — deployed in the region.

Stay sharp.
Stay ready.
Come home safe.

Semper Paratus.
