Naval Air Station Wildwood Foundation which operates as Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to restore Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport, Cape May County, New Jersey, into an aircraft museum honoring the 42 Aviators who died while training at the site during World War II. Hangar # 1 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in S

eptember of 1997. The site served as an active dive-bomber squadron training facility from 1943 to 1945. Aircraft stationed at NAS Wildwood included TBM Avengers, Douglas Dauntless, Vought Corsairs, and Curtiss Helldivers. During this span, there were over 130 crashes which led to the deaths of 42 naval aviators. In June 1997, the NASW Foundation purchased Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport. The 92,000-square-foot all-wooden structure was in a state of disrepair and required extensive renovation. Under the stewardship of the NASW Foundation, the hangar was listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places at the National Significance Level. NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum now boasts over 26 aircraft displays as well as exhibits of military memorabilia, engines, photographs, and more. The museum also features a gift shop and hosts many special events. The hangar can be booked for birthday parties and private events such as weddings. THE STAGE IS SET FOR AIRFEST 2026!

Historic Hangar #1 and the AirFest flight line are getting ready for four unforgettable days of aviation, history and more at Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum!

AirFest will also feature special aviation appearances and displays from AtlantiCare Medevac, the New Jersey State Police, and Cape May County Mosquito Control, along with other public-safety and emergency-service participants.

Saturday will also feature the Aero Club of Pennsylvania & EAA Fly-In, bringing an ever-changing assortment of privately owned aircraft and pilots from throughout the region. Part of the fun is seeing what else may fly in!

From World War II to Today — Military History Comes to Life at AirFest!

AirFest 2026 will bring together living-history reenactors, military groups, and modern military displays, giving visitors a chance to explore American military service across generations.

Joining us Friday through Sunday will be:

• 328th Medical Battalion WWII — featuring a World War II medical display
• 401st Glider Infantry, 101st Airborne — representing the airborne and glider forces of World War II
• 9th Infantry Division WWII — bringing World War II history to life through living-history interpretation

Connecting that history with the military of today, the 621st Contingency Response Wing will be represented all four days of AirFest with equipment on display. Based in part at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the 621st specializes in rapidly deploying personnel and equipment to establish and support air operations during contingencies, combat operations, and humanitarian missions.

We’re also excited to welcome members of two of New Jersey’s own Air National Guard units on Friday and Saturday — the 108th Wing “Thunderchiefs” from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and the 177th Fighter Wing “Jersey Devils” from Atlantic City International Airport.

The 108th supports global mobility and other Air Force missions while also remaining ready to assist New Jersey during emergencies, while the 177th operates the F-16 Fighting Falcon and maintains combat-ready forces for both national and state missions.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet actual unit members, ask about their missions and military service, and purchase squadron merchandise and gear.

It’s a unique opportunity to speak with the people preserving the stories of World War II while also meeting some of the Airmen carrying on New Jersey’s military tradition today.

🚨 AIRFEST AIRCRAFT LINEUP UPDATE! 🚨

We have an important update to the AirFest 2026 aircraft lineup!

Unfortunately, due to maintenance, the A6M Zero Replica will no longer be able to make the trip to AirFest this year. While we’re disappointed it won’t be joining us, we’re excited to announce a fantastic addition taking its place:
The Aero L-39 Albatros is joining AirFest 2026!

Developed by Aero Vodochody in Czechoslovakia, the L-39 Albatros was designed during the 1960s as the successor to the L-29 Delfín jet trainer. The L-39 made its first flight in 1968 and went on to become one of the most successful military jet trainers of its era.

Built primarily to train military pilots, the sleek two-seat L-39 was also developed for light-attack missions. Thousands were produced, and the Albatros served with air forces around the world. Its combination of performance, relatively simple operation, and distinctive appearance also helped make the L-39 a popular aircraft on the civilian and airshow circuit.

We’re thrilled to add this Cold War-era jet trainer to an already incredible lineup of historic aircraft at AirFest 2026!
