Periscope Films has been working with us to digitize historic training films from the museum’s collection, helping ensure that these fragile pieces of film and the stories and information they contain are preserved for future generations.

Film preservation is an important part of protecting history. By converting these materials into a digital format, we are not only helping safeguard the originals, but also making it possible for these historic films to be studied, shared, and enjoyed long into the future.

This past Friday, we were thrilled to welcome Team Shelby Northeast back to Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum as part of their 2026 East Coast Grand Nationals!

A couple of years ago, Team Shelby visited us during one of their Poker Runs, bringing an incredible collection of Shelby and Ford Performance vehicles to the museum. This year, we were excited to welcome them back — and this time, they stayed for the evening!

NAS Wildwood served as the final stop of Friday’s Poker Run and Cruise, with members getting the chance to tour Historic Hangar #1 and photograph their cars alongside our aircraft. The evening continued with dinner under the wings inside the hangar, an evening program, and a charity auction supporting some great causes.

We were also honored to hear from Aaron Shelby, grandson of the legendary Carroll Shelby and Co-President of the Carroll Shelby Foundation, who spoke during the evening.

It was a pretty incredible sight seeing rows of Shelby vehicles outside historic Hangar #1 and then bringing everyone together for dinner surrounded by aviation history.

A huge thank you to Team Shelby Northeast for choosing NAS Wildwood as part of this year’s East Coast Grand Nationals and, most importantly, for coming back to visit us again.

This past week, two individuals with personal connections to NAS Wildwood reached out to the museum.

One was the nephew of Charles John Centurioni, one of the 42 Naval aviators who lost their lives while training at NAS Wildwood during World War II. His crash was one of nearly 130 aircraft accidents that occurred here during the station’s wartime years, and his nephew reached out while searching for additional information and a copy of his crash report.

Another individual contacted us about his father, Richard Ritz, who was stationed at NAS Wildwood and worked in ordnance with Carrier Aircraft Service Unit 24 (CASU-24). Richard is pictured in the photographs accompanying this post, and his son is also sending copies of additional photographs from his father’s time here to add to the museum’s historical record.

Connections like these are a reminder of why preserving and sharing this history matters. The more the word spreads about NAS Wildwood and our mission, the more opportunities we have to connect the dots, uncover new pieces of the story, and help families reconnect with their own history.

Days at the museum are always fun and exciting, but moments like these are some of our favorites.

🚨 VISITOR NOTICE — THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15 🚨

This Thursday, October 15, our fire alarm system will be undergoing scheduled testing, inspection, and maintenance throughout the day.

This is an especially important safety measure for Historic Hangar #1, which is an original World War II-era structure constructed primarily of wood.

Visitors should be aware that the fire alarms may sound periodically throughout the day as the system is tested. The alarms can be quite loud and may be uncomfortable or overstimulating for guests with sensitive hearing, sensory sensitivities, or other special considerations.

The museum will remain open, but if loud or unexpected noises may be difficult for you or someone in your group, you may wish to plan your visit for another day.

We appreciate your understanding as we complete this important safety work and help protect Historic Hangar #1, our collection, and everyone who visits.

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Navy ! ⚓

For 251 years, generations of Sailors have answered the call to serve our nation at sea, beneath the waves, in the skies above, and at duty stations around the world.

Here at Naval Air Station Wildwood, we are especially proud to remember the Sailors and Naval Aviators who trained and served on this ground during World War II. Their service is part of the larger story of the United States Navy. A story that continues today through the men and women serving across the globe.

To all who have worn the uniform, past and present, thank you for your service.

Come see the Grumman F-14 Tomcat! Do you feel the need for speed? Being able to achieve greater velocity and altitudes than propeller-powered aircraft, jets have come to dominate military aviation since World War II. The history of jet-propelled aircraft is marked by technological innovation, which the museum seeks to highlight through its sizable collection of military jets – starting with the subsonic T-33 and ending with the supersonic F-16.
