As Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #1, the Leonis Adobe Museum is dedicated to restoring, preserving, and sharing the last of the old west. Here, you can experience California rancho life of the late 1800s, visit a Victorian-style early Los Angeles home, see what a jail was like in the Wild West and enjoy a picnic in picturesque Calabasas Creek Park next door with its re-created Chumash vi

llage, antique ironwork and lovely gardens. We host many budget-friendly & family-friendly community events through out the year. We also offer school tours and private tours by appointment only.

2026 marks our 60th ANNIVERSARY as a 501 (c)(3) Non-Profit Living History Museum dedicated to historic preservation and sharing early California history.

What started out as a grassroots community movement to save the Leonis Adobe, which had been left abandoned and derelict for years, turned into a pioneering role in the Los Angeles historic preservation movement, which was essentially non-existent at the time.

Four years were spent painstakingly restoring and preserving the historic residence and grounds. We proudly opened our doors to the public in 1966. 🎉

We are also proud to have been designated the City of Los Angeles’ First Historic-Cultural Monument in 1962, preventing the Adobe’s demolition.

We are celebrating our Diamond Jubilee with a special Anniversary event on:

The barn was originally located on two other sites that were part of the property, but was ultimately moved to where it stands now to make way for the 101 Freeway.

Our Backstory 📖:

After being saved from demolition, the Leonis Adobe was designated the City of Los Angeles’s FIRST HISTORIC-CULTURAL MONUMENT in 1962.

After four years of meticulous restoration, the Adobe opened its doors to the public in 1966 as a Living History Museum dedicated to sharing and preserving California history.
