One last celebration for the culture. 🎶✨

Join ADAMA and Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education this Saturday, September 5, for the closing celebration of Mending to Preserve!

Go deeper into the exhibition with artist Selorm Jay , as he leads guided tours at 1 and 3 p.m., sharing the people, stories and history behind his work documenting Ghanaian hip hop.

Then stick around as Selormjay takes us from the gallery walls to the turntables with a DJ set at 4 p.m. Come for the art, stay for the music and celebrate the connections that bring us together across the diaspora.

For generations, Black women have been photographed, documented and interpreted through someone else’s gaze.

This fall at ADAMA, Delphine Diallo 👁🪞👁 is asking what happens when Black women take control of the image, and when artists gain entirely new tools for creating it.

Opening September 18, The Mythic Quest brings the French-Senegalese artist’s bold practice to Atlanta, moving across photography, collage, moving image and artificial intelligence to explore identity, power, spirituality, transformation and the representation of Black women.

And yes, we’re talking about AI. 👀

At a moment when artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how images are created and understood, Diallo is using the technology not as a replacement for the artist, but as another tool for imagination. She is pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling and expanding what is possible beyond the existing image.

And we’re giving Atlanta a FULL WEEKEND to experience it. ✨

The ADAMA Arts Salon returns with an intimate conversation featuring Delphine Diallo, moderated by Susana M. Morris, Black feminist scholar and cultural critic, professor at Georgia Tech, and co-founder of The Crunk Feminist Collective.
Together, they’ll go deeper into Diallo’s practice, her experimentation with AI, the female gaze and the journey behind The Mythic Quest.

Who gets to determine how Black women are seen? And as the tools of visual storytelling evolve, what becomes possible when Black women are among those using them to imagine the future?

ADAMA is in Rough Draft Atlanta! 📰✨

Swipe through for a closer look at Mending to Preserve, the powerful exhibition by Ghanaian hip hop archivist, photographer and cultural producer Selorm Attikpo.

The feature explores the stories behind the work—from Selormjay’s use of mended cassette tapes, CDs, photography and archival materials to the cultural connections between Accra and Atlanta.

Last night was one for the culture. ✨

The opening of Mending to Preserve brought together art, music, fashion, and community for a beautiful celebration of hip hop and the connections that continue to unite us across the diaspora.

Artist Selorm Attikpo, shared the stories behind his work, offering guests a deeper look at the people, movements and memories that shaped Accra’s hip hop scene. And the conversations didn’t end there. Throughout the evening, guests gathered around Selormjay, connecting with him one-on-one and learning more about the intention and storytelling woven into every piece.

The room was full, the looks were on point and the energy was everything. But what made the night truly special was experiencing, together, how hip hop moves across borders—carrying our stories, preserving our history and reminding us how deeply connected we are.

Thank you to Villa Albertine Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education for its collaboration and partnership in ADAMA’s Bridge Residency, which made Selormjay’s participation and this exhibition possible. And thank you to everyone who showed up and helped make the evening unforgettable.

We are so excited to share our next exhibition, Mending to Preserve, presented by ADAMA and Villa Albertine.

This multimedia exhibition features Selorm Attikpo, also known as Selormjay—an Accra-based hip hop archivist, photographer, filmmaker, DJ and cultural producer who has spent more than 15 years documenting African hip hop from within the culture.

Selormjay participated in ADAMA’s Bridge Residency, a collaboration with Villa Albertine that highlights artists, curators and thought leaders from the Francophone African diaspora. Mending to Preserve marks the culmination of his residency project.

Through mended artworks, photography, recordings, flyers and archival materials, the exhibition honors the people who built Accra’s hip hop scene while challenging misconceptions about African hip hop. The work celebrates hip hop not simply as music, but as a culture rooted in creativity, identity, education, resistance and community.

The visible seams running throughout the exhibition acknowledge the places where hip hop has been dismissed or misunderstood while reclaiming its history, depth and distinctly African identity. Mending corrects the narrative; preserving ensures that the corrected story survives.
