Steven Dahlberg: ‘Kleidoti Tori’

Our YOMU rental space, run by Zergei Samson, is a space to make your own, within an inspiring cultural environment. Coming Saturday Steven Dahlberg () is showing his solo-exhibition ‘Kleidoti Tori’.

The exhibition explores the hidden language and forms of traditional Agnisa headscarves: folded pieces of heritage, part of the koto misi, which were worn during the era of slavery as silent forms of communication.

As a fashion stylist of Surinamese descent, Steven has always been affected by the power, elegance, and symbolism of the koto misi. Now, as an artist, he translates his cultural roots into sculptures in which history, texture and ceramic forms come together.

OSCAM x Hogeschool van Amsterdam
Open call for commissioned artwork in Corry Tendeloohuis

OSCAM and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) invite artists to propose a new permanent artwork for the entrance hall of the Corry Tendeloohuis, home to the Faculty of Business and Economics in Amsterdam.

The building is a daily environment for students, staff and visitors. The entrance hall plays an important role as the first point of contact, with a clear need for a stronger visual identity and a more welcoming spatial atmosphere. The commissioned artwork will serve as a key visual landmark within this entrance space and contribute to how the building is experienced and understood.

The work is inspired by the life and legacy of Corry Tendeloo, who advocated for equal rights, opportunities, and representation. We invite artists to respond to her legacy through themes of equality, inclusion and connection in contemporary society.

We are particularly interested in proposals that:

- (Partially) include recycled or circular materials
- Incorporate light or engage with natural light conditions
- Represent Corry Tendeloo in a recognisable or interpretative way
- Offer a strong spatial and visual presence within a public interior setting

The artwork will be permanently installed in the entrance hall of the Corry Tendeloohuis.

Budget: up to €9,500 (including production and installation)

To apply, send your proposal, portfolio and budget to [email protected] before 29 July, 2026, with the subject line: OSCAM x Hogeschool van Amsterdam commissioned artwork - Corry Tendeloohuis

Opening: ‘Umoja’

Our YOMU rental space, run by Zergei Samson, is a space to make your own, within an inspiring cultural environment. Tonight we’re opening ‘Umoja’ by Sekera Mohamed Besta (). She is a multidisciplinary artist born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, whose work focuses on Black African identity and lived experience.

Through her images, Besta creates space for Africans to be seen, interpreted, and heard on their own terms. Her practice challenges the stigmatization and misunderstanding surrounding African art and history, while highlighting the richness and complexity of African experiences. Texture, colour, and personal narrative shape her work, documenting African life across both contemporary and post-colonial contexts.

Come by tonight during the opening or visit while ‘Umoja’ on from June 12 until 19.

Program highlight
Opening: ‘Where We Land’

Join us on Thursday June 11 for the opening of ‘Where We Land’, the first solo exhibition by Vanity Wezer (). As part of the Young OSCAM Art Kitchen (YOAK), the exhibition explores how place shapes the way we inhabit ourselves, experience time, and find meaning in the everyday.

The opening is a moment to land, surrounded by Vanity’s work. The program begins with sounds by DJ Renski (), whose selections create space for presence and attentive listening. From there, we move into the YOMU space for a guided meditation by Channine (), inviting visitors to slow down and connect with the themes of the exhibition.

Following this moment of reflection, we gather for welcome words by members from the OSCAM team, after which artist Vanity Wezer will introduce the exhibition. The program continues with Aïcha Gill (), blessing us with a soulful, passionate and storytelling performance. We conclude with a music by DJ Renski.

Be part of the opening of ‘Where We Land’ by signing up through the link in our bio.

Opening: ‘Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on’

Join us for the opening of Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on, the first solo exhibition by Surinamese artist Zergei Samson (.samson) known as Zed. Samson, on Friday 3 July 2026 at OSCAM.

In this deeply personal body of work, Samson explores sexuality, self-acceptance, and mental health. Through a new series of paintings, he reflects on experiences of insecurity, depression, and loneliness, as well as the gradual process of growth and learning to accept oneself.

The exhibition offers an intimate insight into his inner world, where emotions and lived experiences are translated directly onto the canvas. It touches on themes of q***r sexuality, self-acceptance, and the complex emotions involved in understanding and embracing one’s identity.

Alongside his artistic practice, Samson is active at OSCAM as the driving force behind YOMU (Young OSCAM Meet Up Space). With this exhibition, OSCAM creates space not only for emerging artistic voices, but also for the creative talents within its own team. Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on therefore marks a moment in which Samson’s role as both artist and maker takes centre stage.

Come by and view this powerful exhibition by signing up through the link in our bio.
