Opening: ‘Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on’

Join us for the opening of Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on, the first solo exhibition by Surinamese artist Zergei Samson (.samson) known as Zed. Samson, on Friday 3 July 2026 at OSCAM.

In this deeply personal body of work, Samson explores sexuality, self-acceptance, and mental health. Through a new series of paintings, he reflects on experiences of insecurity, depression, and loneliness, as well as the gradual process of growth and learning to accept oneself.

The exhibition offers an intimate insight into his inner world, where emotions and lived experiences are translated directly onto the canvas. It touches on themes of q***r sexuality, self-acceptance, and the complex emotions involved in understanding and embracing one’s identity.

Alongside his artistic practice, Samson is active at OSCAM as the driving force behind YOMU (Young OSCAM Meet Up Space). With this exhibition, OSCAM creates space not only for emerging artistic voices, but also for the creative talents within its own team. Masters in Procrastination and Ma********on therefore marks a moment in which Samson’s role as both artist and maker takes centre stage.

We closed the evening with a captivating live saxophone performance by Diana Dzhabbar ().

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and celebrated this moment with us.

To celebrate our move and get to know our new neighbours, we’re also hosting two more Friends of OSCAM Breakfast Clubs on Saturday 6 and 13 June. Recap Workshop Day of Empathy & Liberation Day

On May 8, children came together at OSCAM for a creative afternoon in collabo with Max music ().

During the workshop, we reflected on the meaning of Liberation Day and what freedom, empathy, and togetherness mean to us. The kids then created their own textile sculptures using different fabrics and materials.

Thank you to everyone who joined and made the afternoon a moment of conversation and imagination.

OSCAM featured in JAN Magazine

Recently, JAN Magazine () featured an interview with Marian Duff by Els van Asseldonk about the evolution of OSCAM and the importance of building lasting platforms for underrepresented voices within the cultural field.

The interview explores how lived experience, heritage, and community continue to shape the vision behind OSCAM, and reflects on the role cultural institutions can play in creating more accessible and representative spaces for future generations of artists and creatives.

Marian also shares how OSCAM has grown into a place where art, dialogue, and social connection come together, rooted in Amsterdam Southeast while remaining connected to broader international conversations around culture and inclusion.

Many thanks to JAN Magazine and Els van Asseldonk for the meaningful conversation and feature.
