Galleria Rossella Colombari For over 35 years Galleria Colombari sustains twentieth century furniture and lighting concentraitin Ms.

Galleria Rossella Colombari in Milan is one of the most prestigious international Design galleries. For over 35 years of experience, Rossella Colombari (who comes from a dynasty of antique dealers in Turin), has promoted the importance of Italian twentieth century design. Her experience and technical capabilities, stemming from her formation in the realm of antiques and thanks to her family environment which granted her the opportunity to grow up in close contact with the most important international antique dealers, are now applied in the role of Technical Legal Expert for the Court of Milan and as member of CNE Paris. During the first years of her career, together with her sister Paola, Rossella researched and promoted the work of the architect Carlo Mollino, then unknown. The organization of exhibitions and auctions curated by the Gallery greatly contributed to the rise of Carlo Mollino as the second designer with the highest international auction records (a\er Eileen Gray). In 2005, Rossella Colombari published the book “Carlo Mollino: Catalogo dei Mobili”, an exhaustive technical biography of the architect and his ouevre. For over 35 years Galleria Colombari sustains twentieth century Italian design, concentrating on masterpieces by artists such as: Giò Ponti, Osvaldo Borsani, Ico Parisi, Franco Albini, Fontana Arte, Joe Colombo, Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini. The Gallery participates in the most important interna:onal fairs, beginning with the Biennale of Montecarlo (1983) up to Salon NY, Design Basel, Design Miami, PAD Paris, and PAD London. Each stand is conceived as a cultural mediation, intended not only to present pieces of the highest quality to collectors and the public but also to present a true re-contextualization of the art object: the reaffirmation of historical objects within a contemporary context. Galleria Colombari is an integral part of international circuits and collaborates with many international Museums, such as the Victoria & Albert Museum which acquired pieces by Carlo Mollino from the Gallery and the Musèe d’Orsay which acquired pieces by Carlo Bugatti. Colombari will publish a second book in 2016 entitled “Masterpieces of Italian Design”, edited by Idea Books: a reconstruction of Italian Twentieth Century Design to aid collectors in the navigation of the complex world of the design market.

SHANGAI
For the fourth edition of Design Miami Paris, Galleria Rossella Colombari explores a dialogue between steel, iron and Brutalist elements from the 1970s, creating an installation with a strong sculptural and totemic presence.
Lazzarini’s bookcase, with its interwoven structure reminiscent of a game of pick-up sticks, engages in a conversation with Ico Parisi’s armchairs and Angelo Lelii’s lamp, balancing visual lightness and structural rigour.
Reflective steel surfaces by Borsani and Fantoni amplify the interplay between the works, while lights, desks and objects enter the composition as independent presences.
Each element retains its own identity while becoming part of a collective narrative.

The “QUINTA”
More than a lamp, Quinta is a piece of theatre.

A long white fabric descends from ceiling to floor, becoming screen, partition and luminous backdrop. As light moves across its surface, the space changes, revealing new atmospheres, new perspectives, new scenes.

Designed by Silvio Coppola as an element in constant transformation, Quinta blurs the boundary between lighting, architecture and scenography.

A quiet presence, always ready for the next act.

APTA, A THEATRE OF FORMS

With their shifting geometries and graphic surfaces, Gio Ponti’s APTA pieces move beyond the boundaries of furniture, becoming architecture in miniature and scenography within the room.

Designed as both wardrobes and room dividers, they conceal and reveal, creating ever-changing perspectives and transforming the space around them.

Their interiors hold a discreetly practical world of rails and storage, hidden behind a bold composition of black, white and grey.

A study in geometry, rhythm and ornament, where function becomes part of the performance.

A little theatre of forms, unfolding within the room.

ACT III — JUST FOR A MOMENT

After the conviviality of the table, the house slows down.

The rhythm changes, making space for a more intimate moment, one devoted to oneself.

At the centre of the scene, a writing desk from the 1950s reveals a mirror within its structure, transforming a simple everyday gesture into a moment of pause, reflection and contemplation.

Behind it, a three-panel work designed by Osvaldo Borsani in the 1950s and hand-drawn by Aligi Sassu expands the space beyond its walls. Its delicate landscape creates an imagined view, while the desk defines a small, private world within the room.

Together, the two works create a quiet refuge within the home: a place to write, read, think, or simply pause.

A space within a space.
A moment within the home.
Just for oneself.

OUR THEATRE — ACT II
RIGOUR | MYSTERY

Geometry meets mystery.

W***y Rizzo’s cabinet and Justine Tjallinks’ enigmatic portrait meet in a quiet visual dialogue, where form, elegance and mystery begin to overlap.

The cabinet’s precise lines and restrained presence create a structured counterpoint to the softness and ambiguity of the photograph. Its circular handles echo the oversized hat, introducing a subtle rhythm between the two works.

Two distinct languages, brought together by a shared geometry.

A scene where clarity and intrigue, structure and softness, exist in delicate balance.

The stage changes.
The protagonists change.
The story continues.

Aldo Mondino’s Chi/Tarra Chi/Ama (1976–1982) begins with a play on words and unfolds into a play on perception. Echoing the sound of chitarra while separating it into Chi and Ama, who and loves, the title transforms language into a visual gesture, inviting multiple readings before the work is even observed.

Constructed from lacquered wood, the unique piece combines painting, relief, and geometry in a carefully orchestrated composition. Overlapping planes, bold chromatic contrasts, and graphic signs dissolve the boundary between image and object, reflecting Mondino’s distinctive ability to merge wit with formal precision.

Neither painting nor sculpture, Chi/Tarra Chi/Ama celebrates ambiguity, where words become shapes and shapes become stories.
