Helena’s work is about the small pleasures we try to hold on to, and how they slip away. Her paintings often feel like scenes from a celebration that is quietly going wrong: a bouquet at its peak, a glass about to spill, a guest that nobody invited. She is drawn to things that are beautiful and fragile at once, and to our attempts to keep them that way. Wrapping, freezing and polishing promise permanence, but they also keep us at a distance from what we want to enjoy. The result is seductive and unsettling in equal measure, a portrait of longing in an age of perfect images.
Born in 1996 and based in Reykjavík, she studied at the Iceland University of the Arts and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. She has had solo shows at the Reykjavík Art Museum, and received the Motivational Award of the Icelandic Art Prize in 2025.
