Matisse meets Katz in Nice.

The Musée Matisse in Nice has a new exhibition that connects Henri Matisse (French,1869-1954) and Alex Katz (American, b.1927).

What do they have in common? Light, bold color, and simple shapes.

On the left: Matisse. On the right: Alex Katz.
You can see how the American artist learned from the French master since 1949.

The exhibition is now open at the Musée Matisse.

How did fake Egyptian treasures end up in the world's most famous museums?

A new investigation by journalist Vincent Noce (France, b.1951) reveals a dark and international network of illegal antiquities trade.

At the center of it is Serop Simonian, an art dealer based in Hamburg. He was active for decades, even though the first cases against him started in the early 2000s.

According to the book, objects with a very doubtful origin and authenticity were sold for millions and entered some of the most prestigious museums in the world.

One of the most shocking cases is the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The new museum bought from Simonian a statue head believed to be Cleopatra and a stele of Tutankhamun for 50 million euros.

A story that shows how even the biggest museums can be tricked by the illegal art market.
