New addition to our toddler welcome station 😍

Legions to Logisticians: 6,000 years of history at Worthy Down

Our latest feature exhibition exploring 6,000 years of local history and archaeology is open now at the museum. Located on our first floor mezzanine, the exhibition charts the story of Worthy Down from its earliest known inhabitants in the Neolithic, through thousands of years of development and change to become the place it is today. Learn about North African Roman slaves, the unsinkable HMS Kestrel, and Laurence Olivier's tumultuous flying career.

Last night we were honoured to open our latest exhibition to visitors from our local community.

'Legions to Logisticians: 6,000 Years of History at Worthy Down' charts the history and archaeology of our local area from the Neolithic to the present day, and is illustrated with objects and artefacts on loan from Hampshire Cultural Trust and The Adjutant General's Corps Museum.

Created by our Curator Alex, this engaging exhibition is on display on our mezzanine gallery and is free to enter. We are open Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30 to 4pm.

📣 Calling all families with young children

Thanks to funding from Museum Development South West and Arts Council England we are improving our offer for toddlers 🎉

🟡We have added step stools to the bathrooms and high chairs to our cafe so that you can eat and wash your hands more easily.

🟡A toddler welcome station has been installed in our foyer where you can pick up a magnifying glass to explore the museum, or borrow a bear in a pushchair to take on a tour.

🟡There's advice for visiting with a baby, and in the museum is an interactive activity table that will be updated monthly with a logistics based challenge.

This is an ongoing project so check back for updates, and plan your visit soon🫡

Nick Higham’s talk tells the story of the little-known Battle of Baku, of five charismatic and unorthodox characters involved in the battle – including the man who was the model for one of Rudyard Kipling’s most popular characters, and another who went on to publish his first book at the age of 99 – and of the often-unsung heroes of the Army Service Corps, who transported this ramshackle little army and kept it supplied against almost insuperable odds.
