Today's is this image of a Staff and Personnel Support (SPS) Captain, taken in the 1990s.

The SPS was formed at the same time as the AGC, on 6th April 1992. It was made up of personnel from the RAPC, WRAC, and staff clerks from the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC).

Today there is a detachment of approximately 20 SPS personnel attached to every unit in the British Army, as well as overseas (such as NATO Headquarters and British Embassies). They ensure that the Army are ready for deployment, managing people, finances, and information.

🥸 Moustache of the Month - Captain H.B. Abadie, 11th Hussars 🥸

Captain Harry Bertram Abadie joined the 11th Hussars on 5th October 1892 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was promoted to Lieutenant in September 1894. He served with the Chitral relief force in 1895 as an assistant transport officer, in the North Western Frontier of India Campaign (1897-98), and in the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1900) as a special service officer.

Abadie was present at the action of Elandslaagte 21st October 1899, and also took part in the defence of Ladysmith. He is mentioned in despatches from February 1900, knoting his service as Staff Officer for Water Supplies during the siege.

In March he was appointed aide-de-camp to Lieutenant-General Sir Archibald Hunter, Commander of the 10th Division. He was mentioned once more in despatches in September 1901, and was (posthumously) awarded the Distinguished Service Order in October 1901.

Abadie unfortunately died of enteric (typhoid) fever on 25th February 1901, on his way home to England. He was buried at Colesberg, but has many memorials across England:- on his family grave in Eastbourne, on a family memorial in Canterbury Cathedral, on the South Africa Gate memorial at Wi******er College, and in the South Africa Chapel at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

This is an Army Educational Corps side cap that belonged to Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Graham Browning Johnstone. He would have worn it during the Second World War whilst attached to the Indian Army.

Johnstone's service did not begin with the AEC. He served with the Royal Field Artillery/Royal Horses Artillery throughout the First World War, being stationed at Egypt (1915-1917), Aden (July-Sept 1915), and Italy (Aug-Nov 1918). He also briefly served with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force from March 1916 - August 1917.

He was demobilised on 31st October 1919, although would go on to commission as a Lieutenant in the AEC in December 1920. In November 1927 he was appointed as Acting Staff Captain in India, and then promoted to Captain in February 1931.

Between January 1935-September 1938 Johnstone was the Commandant at King George's Royal Indian Military School, located in the state of Himachal Pradesh (Northern India). In April 1939, he moved to Kitchener College, Nowgong, where he served as Chief Instructor until 1943.

He is noted as serving with G.H.Q. in Burma at some point during the Second World War, and also as achieving the rank of Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel on 12th July 1944.

Johnstone retired as Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel on 7th October 1948, having served in the British Army for over 30 years.
