W/ Air Quality team &

Join us on Thursday 18 June for a series of FREE creative workshops and a playful lunchtime activity exploring the air we breathe.

In Creative Cityscapes, guided by local artist Paloma, we’ll use charcoal, graphite, stencils and collage to create a collective artwork inspired by how urban spaces shape our air.

At lunchtime, take part in Collecting Air an outdoor participatory activity where we imagine, sense and ‘capture’ the wind through drawing, writing and observation, building a poetic shared collection.

Lunchtime activity 1.00–2.00 – Gallery outdoors
Afternoon workshop 2.30–4.30 – Gallery
Evening workshop 5.30–7.30 – Patch

Have you seen the sunflowers being planted? 🌻

Behind the scenes, our garden volunteers help keep the outdoor spaces thriving. As part of National Children’s Gardening Week, families joined us to help bring the historic grounds to life with sunflowers inspired by All The Things exhibition.

The new planting will brighten the gardens throughout the summer while also supporting local wildlife, providing nectar for bees and seeds for birds. A huge thank you to our amazing garden volunteers, whose care and hard work help these spaces flourish for visitors, wildlife and the local community to enjoy.

Artist Mikaela Roe-Bowers is completing a residency at the Old Town Hall in Richmond

Mikaela says:

“I am a multidisciplinary artist creating playful, interactive 3D works inspired by childhood, nostalgia, and the surreal. Using found objects and handcrafted creatures, I create immersive pieces that invite people to reconnect with imagination and play. My practice is intuitive and experimental, often allowing materials and ideas to naturally shape the direction of the work.

Moving into this new studio space has been a really important step for my practice. It has given me the freedom to experiment more openly, collect materials, and physically bring ideas to life in a bigger way. Being surrounded by interesting, silly objects, works in progress, and potential materials constantly inspires new creations and playful interactions.

After recently returning to the space, after a 6 month break I’m excited to continue developing my practice, I am now wanting to experiment with animation and new techniques to further expand my imaginary world, and use the studio as a dedicated place to finish a video piece.”

Mikaela’s placement is part of the Artists Make Space programme, which offers free space for artists based in Richmond Borough.

Welcome to your new home, oak tree! For Earth Day, we’re celebrating this young oak as the newest permanent resident of our woodland.

This oak tree is part of Ackroyd & Harvey’s on-going Beuys’ Acorns project, through which the artists have nurtured acorns they collected into thriving young trees. The artists are planting many circles of seven trees in urban public spaces and in partnership with cultural venues. This single oak tree at Orleans House Gallery is a sister tree to one of these circles, recently sited on Hampton Common.

Now the trees are planted, rooted into the land and rooted with the people of Richmond upon Thames. The ongoing project follows Beuys’ legacy and intention for the work: these living sculptures foster a reciprocal ecology between plants and humans with the trees at the centre. These local oak trees are part of our Cultural Reforesting programme.
