RHODES is pleased to present ‘Pool Diaries,’ a new body of work by leading contemporary collage artist Nick Smith.
Developed from Smith’s ongoing exploration of swimming pools, the exhibition captures the bright, cinematic atmosphere surrounding pool culture and the aspirational worlds that gather around it. Across 14 original works, pools emerge not simply as sites of leisure, but as carefully constructed environments suspended somewhere between architecture, ritual, performance and temporary escape.
Structured through timestamped observations, ‘Pool Diaries’ follows the shifting conditions, behaviours and quiet absurdities that unfold around the pool across the course of a single day. Through close observation and subtle humour, Smith draws significance from moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed, transforming the familiar into reflections on time, presence and the peculiar intimacy of shared spaces.
Beneath the brightness and polished surfaces lies a quieter meditation on the small rituals and everyday moments that shape our lives, suggesting that some of our most meaningful experiences occur when we appear to be doing very little at all.
