Join us for a panel discussion with Bahar Noorizadeh which departs from and returns to the artist’s theory-moving images to explore the foundational violence of the economy, finance, the market, speculation and pricing at work in the past, present and future of capitalism.

Convened by The Otolith Collective Otolithians, with Bahar Noorizadeh , Adam HajYahia Adam HajYahia // آدم حاج يحيى, Max Haiven Max Haiven and Lama El Khatib .

The panel explores how thinkers, researchers and artists have adopted, adapted and updated the theories of sacrifice and the sacred formulated by the Catholic philosopher Rene Girard in ‘Violence and the Sacred’, his 1972 anthropology of religion. These theories, which have proved influential for techno-illuminati such as the homicidal venture capitalists Peter Thiel and Alex Karp, the co-founders of Palantir Technologies, generate powerful diagnostic insights into the retrospective, retroactive and prospective dimensions of technocapitalism.

Convened by The Otolith Collective Otolithians, with Bahar Noorizadeh , Adam HajYahia Adam HajYahia // آدم حاج يحيى, Max Haiven Max Haiven and Lama El Khatib , the panel acts as a live meditation of Noorizadeh’s research.

The conversation will examine gamification as a mechanism of control, information as an urban medium, sacrifice as the social form of finance, and conspiracy as a mode of navigating this terrain.

📣 Book now: Game Design Workshop with Concrete Realm

Join Mo and Stan (Mohamed Eltoukhy and Stan Rodriguesco) – founders of Concrete Realm Games – for a hands-on introduction to game and level design. Participants will take their ideas from paper into Unreal Engine, a 3D creation and game development platform, exploring how real-world experiences can be turned into playable spaces. Game Design with Concrete Realm, will focus on the visual elements of creating a game, from level layout and player flow to worldbuilding and composition.

This workshop is organised within the context of Bahar Noorizadeh’s mural project ‘In Mortua Manu / In A Dead Hand’ in which the artist has developed a new detective mystery video game set in The Showroom’s neighbourhood. The game is playable via a console installed in the gallery space until 19 December, after which it will tour the local area of Church Street.

This workshop is as part of Imagining Futures, The Showroom’s Schools and Young People Programme and is generously supported by John Lyons Charity.

Join us for ‘Deeper than Rap’ - a listening session at The Showroom led by Dipo Alao-Odeleye, Assistant Engagement Curator and Ezra Olaoya, founder of ETP Studios.

This is an intentional, intimate listening session that honours Black Sonics as knowledge transmission, acknowledging the depth and gravity of information encoded within the wavelengths and frequencies of our musical offerings.

Attendees will be encouraged to listen not only with their ears, but with their minds and bodies, and, in doing so, receive this information in a space that encourages considered and critical engagement with the art. Proposing Black Sonics as an alternative pedagogy and living archive, we will engage with J Hus’ Big Conspiracy as a rich text from which we can learn about the world and our place in it.
