In Wake of Sargent
The de Glehn and Monod Painting Circle
—
John Singer Sargent’s influence on Wilfrid de Glehn, Jane de Glehn and their cousin Lucien Monod, lay less in subject matter than in a way of working: direct, mobile, and alert to the living structure of light. Through Sargent, they became part of a transatlantic circle in which painting was inseparable from travel, friendship, and repeated return. The habit of setting up easels together, moving from city to garden to coast, and treating each place as a temporary studio helped shape the rhythm of their lives.

Jean-Marie Toulgouat was the last remaining link with Claude Monet at Giverny.

Always with an eye for colour and light, and the pursuit of the beauty of the natural world, his spontaneity and controlled fluency combine in his paintings. His is an Impressionism that stems from the ‘family business’ which is deeply intertwined in the complex history of Giverny.

To coincide with RHS Chelsea Flower Show () this selection of 15 works, connects collectors and horticulturists, to witness the personal evolution of a unique artist whose true legacy has remained in the shadows, until now.

Coming Soon.
Following several shows in the US, David Messum Fine Art is thrilled to once again present the works of Hugo Grenville here in Britain.

---

Hugo Grenville is a painter who believes deeply in the power of colour, light, and beauty. Internationally known for his interiors, often depicting women in a calm domestic setting, surrounded by patterned fabrics, windows, mirrors, and warm light, his paintings are less concerned with narrative than they are with mood. The figures bring a sense of quiet, thoughtfulness, and stillness, while the room around them becomes just as important as the person within it.

Spring Sunsets

We are open today from 10:00-16:00.

Come and savour the works of Michael Bennallack Hart.

Michael is an artist traveller in a the classic sense, attentive to weather, topography, and the marks that remain when people have stepped out of view. At the same time, his work belongs decisively to the present moment. These are unpeopled landscapes made for a world crowded with noise, images, and urgency.

In anticipation of all things floral at Chelsea in the coming weeks, savour this delightful and rare painting of flowers, by Henry Scott Tuke.

Carnations, one of the oldest cultivated flowers in the world, known since Greek and Roman times, are full of meaning and symbolism. Said to represent love and devotion; pink carnations symbolise gratitude, red carnations symbolise love and affection.

Tuke was known to enjoy growing carnations in his garden at Pennance Cottage near Swanpool, Falmouth; he painted this in the summer of 1890.
