For today’s #throwbackthursday we want to share this rare imperial cloisonné brushrest with gilt-bronze stand we sold at @asianartinlondon 2002.

The brushrest is formed as a five-peak mountain, decorated with various auspicious symbols amongst waves, raised on an intricately carved gilt-bronze stand, bearing a Qianlong mark.

- An imperial cloisonné brushrest with gilt-bronze stand (Qianlong mark and period)
Dimensions: 21cm wide, 13.3cm high

Feeling a little blue on this Easter Monday? Here’s a beautiful rare blue dish to help lift the mood. A CIRCULAR BLUE AND SANCAI-GLAZED TRIPOD DISH
三彩加藍釉寶相花三足盤

TANG, 8TH CENTURY 唐
The tray with a flat base rising to a gentle flaring wall and an everted rim, standing on three short cabriole legs. Incised in the centre with a circular roundel containing a rosette encircled by petals. The roundel surrounded by alternating larger lotus leaves and smaller lotus buds on stems, growing in clockwise swirls. The decoration is picked out in green, amber, blue and straw-glaze reserved on a blue ground.

A blue and white 'sage' bottle vase (Yongzheng mark and period, 1723-1735)

Dimensions: 19.5cm high

This small, early Yongzheng period bottle vase is delicately painted with a seated sage and decorated with an imperial poem on the reverse.

Keep an eye on our posts for more details on this poem.

A blue and white cylindrical tripod censer (Ming Dynasty, second half 15th century)

Dimensions: 27 cm. diam.; 20 cm. high

We are continuing our blue and white theme today. This cylindrical censer stands on three short cabriole legs and has slightly flaring sides. It is painted around the exterior in a soft blue tone with peony blooms borne on curled leafy stems, below a raised band and floral scrolls.

Provenance:
Okano Shigezou collection

Literature:
Mingchu Taoci Tujian, Tokyo, 1948, no. 24

The form of the current censer derives from an archaic bronze prototype, ‘lian’. Compare a blue and white bowl in the Topkapi Museum, Istanbul, which has similar peony scrolls painted around the exterior.

A private view of our miniature Beijing enamel ‘Hu’ vase with @asianartinlondon. #repost We were very privileged to handle this rare miniature Beijing enamel ‘Hu’ vase this afternoon. This delicately painted piece measures only 5.7cm - It was made in the imperial workshops in Beijing and is decorated with ‘lingzhi’ and bats, symbolising longevity and happiness, in ‘Falangcai’ or foreign enamels.

Visit Littleton & Hennessy all week to view their current exhibition as part of Asian Art in London 2019.

Thank you @soasdiplomainasianart for your kind words #repost. Tefaf New York opened yesterday to VIPs and one of our favourite Asian art galleries @littletonhennessyasianart are presenting a stand full of beautiful objects. We regularly take our students to their gallery in London for the Chinese art object handling sessions and we always love to hear them talk so passionately about their pieces.

Multi-storied towers such as this one can first be found in tombs of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD) in north central China. They evoke the appearance of a new building type, a stand-alone tower designed to serve as a pavilion or watch tower for pleasure and entertainment, constructed in wood, plaster and tile.
