Last week Andy Warhol’s portrait of Brigitte Bardot achieved a new auction record for the series of the actress, reaching $24.8 million in Sotheby’s Now & Contemporary Evening Auction in New York.

The silkscreen portrait is one of eight Warhol created of the actress, commissioned by her husband Gunter Sachs. Warhol used Richard Avedon’s iconic portrait, pictured here. The image was commissioned for the March 1959 issue of Harper’s Bazaar and is featured in our current exhibition ‘Up Close.’
