Friday night at Hundred Years Gallery : In a traditional Korean house, the sarangbang was the host’s room, where guests gathered for music, poetry and conversation. It was a home of pungnyu, the Korean art of savouring music and nature in good company. Sarangbang is a new series hosted by London-based daegeum soloist and composer Dr Hyelim Kim, bringing that spirit to an intimate room in London.
For the first edition, the host opens the door alone. Kim plays the daegeum, Korea’s oldest bamboo flute, and the small danso, weaving the sounds of nature with Korean traditional music.
