How I built an art gallery inside my own home – and 10 years on, it’s still going strong.

For many years, Belgravia Gallery had traditional gallery spaces in Belgravia and then Mayfair. But over time, I realised something: people love seeing art in real homes.

Not against sterile white gallery walls, but in colourful, lived-in spaces – above a sofa, beside a favourite chair, surrounded by books, fabrics and all the things that make a house a home.

So, nearly 10 years ago, we did something a little different and brought the gallery home.

Today, we showcase work by more than 40 artists and sculptors, spanning all styles, backgrounds and price points. They’re wonderfully varied, but there’s one thing they all have in common: we love seeing their work in our home – and, even more importantly, in our clients’ homes.

Come and visit us to see our latest collection in situ, have a coffee and wander around. Or let us bring the gallery to you – we’re always happy to visit your home with a selection of works so you can see exactly how they look in your own space.

Today, we remember all those who lost their lives on 9/11, the families and friends whose lives changed forever, and the countless acts of courage and kindness that followed.

25 years on, we remember. ❤️

Today we celebrate Surrey-based emerging artist Cicely Creswell

Why it’s our favourite right now…

The Great Oak is one of our favourite works in the gallery at the moment because it rewards every moment spent with it. At first glance, the monochromatic palette feels beautifully calm and understated, but as you move closer, an extraordinary world of intricate mark-making and storytelling begins to emerge. Creswell’s masterful use of fine ink line creates remarkable depth, texture and movement, inviting the viewer to slow down and discover something new each time they look. The work would suit a contemporary, Scandinavian or country interior equally well, where its quiet elegance and timeless craftsmanship become a sophisticated focal point, bringing a sense of nature, tranquillity and enduring beauty into the home.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about a day like today.

We’ve been carefully wrapping and packing beautiful works of art as they begin their journey to new homes, while at the same time unpacking exciting new arrivals ready to take their place on our walls.

Every piece that leaves the gallery is more than just a sale – it’s the start of a new story, becoming part of someone’s home and everyday life. And every new work that arrives brings fresh inspiration, new conversations and endless possibilities.

It’s a constant cycle of change that we never tire of, and one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

‘Fossil’ by Petr Weigl

Some artworks invite us to look forwards; Petr Weigl’s Fossil encourages us to look back.

Inspired by the traces left behind over millions of years, Fossil explores the quiet beauty of what endures. Rather than recreating fossils literally, Petr captures their essence – the textures, impressions and organic forms that tell the story of time itself.

Working with marble dust and polished concrete, he creates richly tactile surfaces that feel as though they have been uncovered rather than made. Each layer, mark and contour reflects nature’s extraordinary ability to preserve moments long after they have passed.

There is a wonderful sense of stillness in these works. They remind us that beauty isn’t always found in perfection, but in history, texture and the passage of time.

Handcrafted in Petr’s London studio, every piece is entirely unique, bringing a timeless, sculptural presence to both contemporary and traditional interiors.

This week I enlisted a few helpers (including Pippi the dog) as we prepared for a remote viewing of this beautiful artwork for a client based in Jersey.

We know how busy life can be, and it’s not always possible to visit us in person. Thankfully, technology allows us to share artworks remotely in a way that is both easy and highly effective, wherever our clients are in the world.

This extraordinary painting, If Only We Knew, by Charlie Mackesy, is truly something special. The ethereal light illuminating the angel and pianist is simply magnificent, while the expressive brushstrokes and rich texture bring the work to life. A genuine masterpiece.

A little re-introduction for our new followers… 👋

I’m Laura Walford, Managing Director of Belgravia Gallery.

I first joined the gallery in 2001, almost 25 years ago to the day, and have been fortunate to be involved in many aspects of the business over the years – from helping run our London galleries to overseeing our move to Surrey in 2017.

One of the things I love most about what I do is working with talented, creative artists and helping clients find the perfect artwork or sculpture to complete their homes and offices. There is nothing quite like seeing a space transformed by the right piece of art.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to work with wonderful clients, artists, suppliers and colleagues, and I’m incredibly grateful for the relationships and friendships that have grown through the gallery.

Outside of work, I spend much of my time fundraising for our charity , keeping active through running and the gym, and most importantly, enjoying time with my children and our dogs.

Thank you for following our journey – whether you’ve been with us for years or have only just discovered Belgravia Gallery. We’re delighted to have you here. ❤️
