Opening tonight, Sim Smith is delighted to present Wenhui Hao’s first solo exhibition in London, Forgiveness is a prolonged death. Bringing together a new body of large-scale paintings, including the artist’s largest work to date, the exhibition explores the complexities of women’s lived experience through an immersive painterly language in which body, landscape and memory become inseparable. Moving between beauty and violence, intimacy and transformation, Wenhui’s paintings create psychologically charged spaces where desire, vulnerability and resilience coexist.

Please join us for a special celebration of the exhibition tonight, Tuesday, 1st September 2026, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at 6 Camberwell Passage, London SE5 0AX. Free, all welcome.

The gallery will be open for extended hours this week from Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm and Saturday, 11am to 5pm.

Opening next Tuesday, 1st September, Wenhui Hao’s first solo exhibition in London, ‘Forgiveness is a prolonged death’ brings together a new body of large-scale paintings, including the artist’s largest work to date.

Please join us for a special celebration on Tuesday, 1st September 2026, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at 6 Camberwell Passage, London SE5 0AX. Free, all welcome, RSVP essential at [email protected].

The gallery will be open for extended hours next week from Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm and Saturday, 11am to 5pm.

Rejecting idealised representations of the female body, Wenhui embraces ambiguity and contradiction, exploring trauma alongside longing, sensuality and renewal. Working with dense layers of oil paint, she builds richly textured surfaces where gesture, colour and material become inseparable from meaning. Saturated passages of crimson, magenta, violet and flesh tones bleed, blossom and decay across the canvas, collapsing distinctions between body and landscape, interior and exterior.

Sim Smith is delighted to present ‘Forego’, a new body of work by Caroline Jackson for The Armory Show, open from 24th to 27th of September, at Booth P24, Javits Center, New York.

In this new body of work, Jackson steps into an uncharted terrain where temporal echoes and raw intuition collide. Shifting from the specific familiar landscapes and memories which once anchored her work, Jackson’s practice dives deeper into her intuitive process. Stepping into the unknown, Jackson surrenders to a more fluid, instinctive journey, with each painting taking a life of its own.  

“There’s a spirit of landscape and time that comes through when I make something. I think that’s where the idea of memory comes from as well, as lots of the time when looking at abstract painting you feel as though it’s familiar even though you’re not quite sure where it is or what you’re looking at. I’m always striving to create some semblance of a sensory world we can all occupy in some way.”

Featuring a new work by Tim Garwood, ‘A Certain Slant of Light’ opened at Philip Martin Gallery on 1st August and is on view until 26th September.

The exhibition presents new and historic works by Carl Cheng, Holly Coulis, Tim Garwood, Sky Glabush, Pamela Jorden, David Korty, Aaron Morse, Hubert Schmalix, Sophie Treppendahl and Sung Jik Yang. In their respective bodies of work, these ten artists of different generations, geographies and backgrounds consider painting, sculpture and assemblage as means by which to interrogate interiority, personal vision and the nature of the art object today.
