His work is held by prestigious institutions like the National Portrait Gallery and the British Museum
Richardson's recognition stems from his distinctive paintings of gritty London life, earning him comparisons to ‘The Martin Scorsese of Oil’ and his inclusion in major collections alongside accolades such as a BP Portrait Award Commendation and British Council Awards, solidifying his status as a significant contemporary British artist known for his cinematic, working-class subject
Richardson gained further attention for Estuary English (flyer image) when it was part of the Herbert Smith Freehills Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery London in 2024.
In essence, Richardson is recognised as a major contemporary painter for his unique, cinematic portrayal of urban working-class culture.
