Huxley-Parlour Gallery, founded in London in 2010, is a forward-thinking modern and contemporary art gallery. Two weeks left to visit 'The Northeast Corridor', on view across our Swallow Street and Maddox Street galleries until 12 September.

Bringing together an intergenerational group of artists whose lives and practices are anchored along the eponymous rail artery running from Washington, D.C. to Boston, 'The Northeast Corridor' maps a diverse yet interconnected terrain of artistic production. Co-curated with participating artist Lisa Sanditz, the exhibition celebrates the enduring networks, communities and spirit of artistic exchange that continue to define the region.

Less than three weeks until Sarah Schlesinger’s 'Sight Line' opens at our Swallow Street gallery.

Bringing together twelve intimately scaled works on panel, Schlesinger’s second solo exhibition with Huxley-Parlour continues her reimagining of the landscape genre. In this new body of work, the artist explores the formal possibilities of seascapes and waves, removing panoramic vistas and horizon lines in favour of closely cropped vignettes.

'All'Antica' continues at our Wiltshire gallery until 09 September.

Featuring works by Raphael Barratt, Beau Gabriel, Natalia González Martín, Lydia Pettit, Ted Pim, Catherine Repko, Ugo Sébastião and Dittmar Viane, the exhibition considers how a new generation of painters engages with the visual language and traditions of Western Classicism.

Drawing on the history of painting both materially and conceptually, the artists build worlds that reinterpret the past through a contemporary lens, while reflecting on how the medium's enduring traditions continue to shape our understanding of the present.

Joel Meyerowitz began his career in the 1960s, photographing the streets of New York. Working in both black-and-white and colour, he used film to record fleeting and surreal moments. He has stated that colour ‘describes more things…when I say description, I don’t mean mere fact and the cold accounting of things in the frame. I really mean the sensation I get from things, their surface and colour, my memory of them in other conditions as well as their connotative qualities. Colour plays itself out along a richer band of feelings, more wavelengths, more radiance, more sensation.”

Kathy Butterly’s (b. 1963) ceramic sculptures reimagine the traditional vessel through forms that appear at once unstable and deeply idiosyncratic. Manipulating and distorting familiar ceramic structures, she pushes her works beyond functional form into highly expressive objects that balance humour, sensuality and unease. Through repeated firings and the meticulous layering of glaze, Butterly builds richly textured surfaces in which colour and materiality assume an almost painterly quality. Her sculptures move fluidly between abstraction and figuration, their collapsing, swelling and asymmetrical forms evoking a subtle sense of bodily presence.

Ted Pim's practice draws on a wide range of art historical and contemporary visual sources, creating layered compositions in which different times, places and traditions converge. Working from an extensive archive of collected imagery, he combines references to Dutch seventeenth-century painting, the Italian Renaissance and fashion photography. Floral arrangements, figures and historical motifs recur throughout his paintings, reimagined through his distinctive visual language. Characterised by dramatic contrasts of light and shadow, Pim's theatrical compositions bring historical and contemporary visual culture into conversation.

Zhang Kechun’s photographs examine China’s changing landscape and the tensions between cultural heritage and modernisation. Working with a large-format camera, he creates expansive, atmospheric images in which human figures are set against monumental natural and post-industrial landscapes. His subtle palette lends these scenes a quiet poignancy, often offset by moments of humour and everyday life.
