“I tend to plan my work, but not extensively. I find that the key is to get the composition right. For my abstract work, I have used the golden mean as the only formal composition tool and then worked with colours to build up the image with thick layers of paint. In this situation, intuition is a much better tool. I maintain an idea of what emotion I wish to express and then let the paint do the talking”

In Into the Deep, Justin moved away from simply painting what he sees and leans into what he feels. Figures dissolve, horizons blur, and paint begins to behave like water itself, pooling, dragging, revealing. It’s less about representation, more about endurance, emotion and finding light beneath the surface 🌊

The Gallery hosts creative work in resolution and in motion!

Our Greatest Thanks to Luana Asiata for Tutoring the 'Bold Horizons' workshop this week, introducing various innovative approaches to oil pastels, a challenging medium that makes one both a painter and draftsperson in a practice! In abstract form, attendees shaped harmonious scenes on paper, with minimal prior experience in the medium.
