John Latham - He looked at the shale bings and saw monuments.

When John Latham turned his attention to West Lothian in the 1970s, most people saw industrial waste. Latham saw process, sculptures – vast pink-red forms built by labour, time and extraction, as significant as Skara Brae or Callanish. His advocacy helped secure protection for the Five Sisters Bing, now a scheduled monument and important regenerating ecosystem.

Latham’s work is at the heart of EXTRACTION, our new exhibition. Those same bings are still on our horizon. The pipeline still runs beneath.

Dumfries & Galloway, Are you 16 to 18 and ready to do something that matters?

Jupiter+ Nation is recruiting for the ORBIT Youth Collective in Dumfries. Twenty fully funded places. Seven months of artist studio visits, trip to London, one-to-one mentoring, portfolio support and a real creative community. No experience needed. Just bring curiosity and a desire to make something of it.

Facial Ritual Sessions by Clare Maclean are back for July & August.

Clares work centres around guided facial wellness – Gua Sha, acupressure, lymphatic flow and fascia release designed to soften tension, support the nervous system and create a grounded, sensory reset. These sessions are accessible, educational and deeply restorative, and they pair especially well with slow, spacious environments like our glasshouse.

Calling all early-career artists in Dumfries and Galloway.

Jupiter+ Nation is coming to your town this summer and we are looking for newly graduated artists to join our resident programme. The offer is six months of rent-free studio space, a monthly stipend and the chance to develop through mentorship and present a new provocation at the end of your residency. Applications open soon.

And to our Dundee residents, thank you. Watching you grow your practice over the past six months, in the company of Growing Pains by Lindsey Mendick and the community around it, has been one of the highlights of this year. You made the work. You showed up. We could not be prouder.

Join Hamish, from Jupiter’s Curatorial Team on July 1st to learn more about Extraction.

This one-hour tour, taking in both the Ballroom and Steadings Gallery, will include discussion of the powerful artworks, as well as behind the scenes insights into the creation of the exhibition. The tour will finish looking out across the landscape that surrounds Jupiter towards the oil pipeline infrastructure and remnants from Scotland’s shale gas industry.

Access to the exhibitions is step-free but does include a ramp into the Ballroom Gallery. The tour route outdoors includes uneven surfaces and pathways. Please contact the front of house team if you require more information ahead of your visit.

An entry ticket to Jupiter Artland must be purchased before entry.

Along the entrance to Jupiter, Stone Coppice by Andy Goldsworthy is a welcoming sight.

Huge stones wedged in between trees, the elements taking hold. Stone Coppice joined the collection in 2009 and has been constantly transforming with the changing seasons. As the landscape welcomes Summer, Stone Coppice takes a new form surrounded by lush greenery.

To find out more about Stone Coppice you can visit our website, which features a mini-interview with Goldsworthy.

You can also view Stone Coppice and over 35 permanent sculptures Mon-Sun as we’re open 7 days a week, 10am–5pm (last entry 3.30pm).
