The Queen Launches New Royal Yacht
Today marks the day of HM The Queen’s accession to the throne in 1952.
Britannia was commissioned on 4 February 1952, sadly two days later King George VI, The Queen's father, passed away. Not only did The Queen now have to prepare for her new role, but she also had responsibility for the commissioning of the new Royal Yacht.
Britannia was officially named and launched by HM The Queen on 16 April 1953.
Britannia is back open today, 10am-3pm. Step aboard to see all five decks.
Even our festive friends who arrive in the middle of the night can expect a five-star experience.
If you are looking for a last-minute present you know they’ll love, both Britannia and our luxury hotel sister ship Fingal have gift vouchers that can be delivered to your e-mail inbox now.

Santa Corgi Selfie
With only three sleeps to go, we just have to share this video of the corgis causing chaos aboard the Royal Yacht!
On the seventh of Britannia’s festive days of Christmas, the Royal Yacht gave to me, seven scones a-spinning and a hiding corgi, oh where could he be?
‘We were given table 1 by the window which afforded us fabulous views.
As it was my birthday we indulged in a Moët Chandon cream tea for two. Sandwiches (cream cheese with smoked salmon & chicken and bacon) were exquisite as was the warmed fudge cake and fruit scones. Even the little touches like the firework topping on the cappuccino sums up the excellent attention to detail as it was Nov 5th.’ – Tripadvisor review Nov ‘21
We’re just two miles from Edinburgh’s city centre, and what a city!
