Museum of Cambridge We are the independent museum of Cambridge, sharing and preserving the extraordinary history of the people of Cambridge and surounding villages.

Come along to discover and celebrate the diverse stories of Cambridge, its surroundings and its people in your friendly local and social history museum. Housed in the former White Horse Inn, the Museum was set up in 1936 by leading members of the town and university with the aim of interesting “the ordinary citizen in aspects of local social life which were fast disappearing in Cambridgeshire”, an ethos which we still hold to today. Experience the wonderful and varied collections of domestic and work life in nine warm room settings. Revisit the toys from your childhood and the folklore of the area. Enjoy the exhibitions and family friendly events throughout the year that bring the displays to life. Looking to dive deeper into our new exhibition, Folklore? 👀

Join us for Folkore, after dark with another Museum Late on Friday 30 October. With live music, folk crafts and curator talks, get some behind-the-scenes insight and delve deeper into the stories of Cambridge’s past.

Plus, Winter calls to you. On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, come and see the newest show from storyteller Hannah Moore and Folk musician Danny Pedlar. Expect an evening of characters, traditions, mysteries and magic, woven through with rich melody and song.

Huge well done if you said it was Cambridge’s famous Market Square – also maybe your talents are being wasted!

Despite its age, this drawing by Joyce Shillington-Scales is still identifiable to those familiar with Cambridge due to its architectural shapes and pavement curves.

This is it! The boss level of ‘Where is This?’ – our little game looking back at historic Portraits of Cambridge, exploring how the city has changed over the years.

This artwork was produced by Joyce Shillington-Scales and is one of Cambridge’s best known locations – so we couldn’t make it too easy for you!

Where is this? Level 4 Answer Reveal!

Did you guess yesterday’s iconic street painted by Henry Moule? It was the beautiful Silver Street – if you look closely you can see the beloved Silver Street Bridge in the distance and the wonderful willow trees behind it.

Tomorrow our final 'Where is This?' location is coming up and it’s the boss level so eagle eyes at the ready.

Through curious tales and bewitching artefacts, we’ll be exploring folklore from Cambridgeshire and beyond, highlighting stories, beliefs and practices passed down through generations.
